I think they might be able to put an on/off switch in somewhere.

Maybe, but when they start the fires, the wiring will be burnt out.
When we did the training for the fire brigade, we had rooms which they
set alight and had to go in and resue etc, the room was devastated.
(mind the exterior was asbestos, so I may be way off base here.

Just found this thread. A bit late, but if anyone cares...

I'm in the job, as some know, and I know someone who works near
Southwark. Just called him and the story seems to be one of the usual
corporate balls up. Planned as the ultimate realistic training venue
costing 6 million. Completed late at a final cost of nearly 26
million. Cables melting inside badly insulated ducting, carbon
monoxide problems causing the instructors to have to wear breathing
apparatus all the time (hence reducing the number of courses they can
actually run), smoke and fumes causing chaos to the neighbours and
loads more. If it wasn't such a waste it'd be funny.

As for the fire, apparently someone moved / knocked / misplaced a gas
heater and it ignited the materiel in an expansion joint in the
building. Fire got into the gap and went behind the wall structure in
the insulation. Was put out quickly, but was watched all night with
thermal imaging cameras to ensure there was no hidden spread behind
    the walls.

Boring, but thats the way with the truth.

    Of firemen...
Halla, did you know? Why didn't you tell me?

See Matt? What did I tell you? All that "No, honestly, scientists turn
me on..." stuff? Complete bollocks. The first fireman to come along and
    she goes all damp.

Nigel Eaton bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along
    the lines of:
Don't you mean "Hot", then Matt can make her damp and put her fire out?

Yes, I did toy with using "moist". But I decided "damp" might be more
    appropriate in the circumstances.

I'm sure LN will be along shortly with a definitive ruling.

If you thought you could get away with it, possibly. Depends. You want
them all to yourself, I'm onto your little plan...

Heh, sorry to dissapoint LN, but I'm nearly into the FB's retirement
age! No longer a nubile young athlete, more like a creaky old beer
    barrel.

But don't let me ruin your fantasy...

It's kind of compulsory now. I never did take up that invite from the
baby fireman to go and look round the station.
    Promise?
