well, I like the look of them, but I wouldn't /want/ one.
well, you do have questionable taste in bikes, it has to be said.

Porl left a note on my windscreen which said:
    "Lacking education or knowledge"

Seems to fit. Unless I'm being ignorant about these things.

Ask yourself what the statement could be ignorant of. It could be wrong,
unclear, badly-proposed or steeped in dogma. It could even be founded on
ignorance. But it can't be ignorant itself.

And as for people that describe bad manners as ignorance, well...The
Embanking Machine is reserved for such low life.

    Isn't it ignorant of motorcycling?

The definition of lacking knowledge surely implies an incorrect
statement. So your suggestion to it being simply 'wrong' would also be
    'ignorant', no?

Surely a statement founded upon ingorance is an ignorant statement - as
    per the OP?

But it's the perpetrator's ignorance, not the statement. The statement has
no conciousness and therefore can''t be ignorant, just as it cannot be well
    appraised, of anything.
Stop saying "surely". If it's supposed to be a magic wand to convince people
or add conviction to your argument I have to tell you it doesn't.

But it's not just that::it actually sounds *wrong* to my ears. Maybe it's
having heard too many snippets from Wife Swap and the like. Since the
language is routinely ripped apart and stuck together in the manner of a
flid with an airfix kit, I feel compelled to champion the underdog.
There's nothing I don't care about to the exclusion of my ambivalence.

    Much like your formatting, then?
Can't knock you for that, mind.
Except setting your software to wrap appropriately, obviously. But
hey - you can't have everything.

I have an excuse in that I access the newsgroup from my boss's laptop and
I'm not going to add the crime of changing his settings to that of
accidentally emailing people from his account.

Secondly- because I offer nothing if not value for money- is that I don't
care. Your obsession with formatting marks you as the poor cousin of pedants
who lives in a trailer and smells of dog food.

Damn, having the oily finger of UKRM's wrath pointed at one really is
quite nasty. Bring back memories of my froggy days. Ah, nostalgia...

The XJROC is just like UKRM, except we all have the same bike. Different
people, different ages and walk of life, different opinions on all sorts
of things. We do ride-outs and meet-ups, camping and drinking (hotels
for the poofs). Mostly we swap notes on the subject of fettling and
tuning the various models of XJR.
The club was formed, before Haynes brought out their book of lies, for
help and advice on what to do if the XJR 12 or 13 breaks or needs improving.
Like a kitcar club or a Beezer Nutcounters Club, it's useful,
interesting and helpful and sometimes snarly and bitchy.
    Just like UKRM.

I really don't care if you don't like my choice of bike )
I love it. It suits me and I'd have another one to replace it in a
    second ;op

In case you're at all interested in looking at the XJROC website and
flaming the crap out of someone whom you know nothing about, the URL is
    easily Googled.

You might want to get a bucket ready, and someone to hold your hair
back, in case you accidentally get into the Gallery area and see some
actual pictures of the XJR in various states of stuck-on gaudiness.

    <fx: blarts off in a huff>

   )

yeah - that would be dumb.

Almost as dumb as accidentally phoning someone up who can then just
hear all the ambient noise/voices from the other end...
