The sort of work *anyone* does.

People often claim that "Under-Promising and Over-Delivering" is the
best way to behave. I think this is naieve:

If you under promise and over deliver your manager/customers/whoever
will soon have you marked out as someone who doesn't have enough work to
do and is trying to impress.

You should always push back (politely but assertively) on delivery dates
(since the first date requested will always be before it's needed) and
make damn sure that you deliver on time.

Delivering early is a bit of a no-no because it shows:
    - You were playing games about the timings.
    - You have less to do than you claim
    - You are not in control of your resources because you can't estimate
    correctly.

Read to bottom of thread before replying.

Seems that Platy and I were of a mind though.

    Worrying.

There is some merit to this, however my bonuses have never been tied
    that tightly to personal deliverables.

I used to work with a PM who had that as a mantra.

I agree with you that it's a one-shot approach; do it consistently and
    people will know you're bullshitting.

    scribbled:
    Neither have mine.

Good points you made though. But do you consider them edging along the
"I know manager will think this, and he knows I know that, and I know
    he knows I know....." path?
