Today I are mostly taking my daughter for an interview at an equine college
she has wanted to go to since she was 12.

There are only about 25 places there, so it could be a bit tough.

She is very cool about it all, whereas I am very nervous.

The "spirit of UKRM" which you're advocating would, by your definition
mean that people can tell you that your posts are boring and tedious.

Or are you saying that "chat about anything" only applies to things you
    reply or make?
Whilst the pub analogy has some merit, I'm not sure it goes that far.
It's like standing up in front of the whole pub and shouting at them
with a megaphone (making a new post) rather than replying to a couple
of blokes (which is much nearer replying in a thread).

A newsgroup, loosely based on bikes, where if you can't take the abuse
then **** off? That's what the gist was in the FAQ when I subscribed.

Post what you like. If you get the discussion you wanted then great,
if you don't then either killfile the people you don't like or converse
    in a friendly group.

That's the spirit of UKRM AFAIK.

No, it was a feeble attempt at a put down of Bear and myself, which only
served to make him look an even sadder **** than usual.

Considering you told me I was up myself and therefore I should
obviously take great offence, does that mean I'm now having to default
into being in the Rope(y) clique?

    Damn.

The fact he can fail in such a simple task says it all, really.

I read a one-pager earlier from the business that basically said:

"What do we want? Everything. When do we want it? Now."

    is it carbon[1]-neutral?

[1] it can't be only me that sees the red mist when reading the phrase
    "carbon neutral". It's carbon-dioxide, motherfuckers!

Well, was a good day, she's been offered a conditional [1] place for a 2
    year course.

[1] Conditional on GCSE results, at least now she has some motivation.

Congrats. I occasionally go riding with a lass who is in her first
year of BHSI (or whatever they call it) and thoroughly enjoying it.
Just as well, as I was the one who encouraged her to quit 6th Form and
do something she would actually enjoy...

Cheers, she is really quite pleased with herself.

Course sounds like bloody hard work to me, and in all weathers, but that
    doesn't seem to bother her.

Getting the bus from Bicester to Witney every day is going to be fun mind.

It's been said before, but I think it's worth saying again. How come
an average teenage girl (steady, boys!) can barely be persuaded to
tidy their bedroom even at gunpoint, yet can also be more than happy
to spend all their leisure time shovelling horseshit?
