I was picking up some Spares from Metropolis ( bike dealer Vauxhaul,
London) recently, and enquired about the price for a replacement visor
    for my Shoei.

I was offered a standard replacment or one with the Pinlock (tm)
system fitted. This Pinlock system has an secondary smaller visor
fitted on the inside of the normal visor : It has a transparent
flexible hard silicone bead that creates an airtight chamber between
    the two visors Unquote.

I was sceptical, and asked the Salesperson " Does it work ? Have YOU
used it ? He assured me he had and it was a good thing, so I bought
    one.

After a weeks commuting, 30% in the rain and on chilly days, I can
    only say I am impressed.

It doesn't fog up. At all. I find that I don't have to open my visor
at the lights to demist, or adjust breathing when slow filtering.

The only downside is the slight reduction in visible area but, I was
checking this, today and the edges start below my handle bars and end
wellin the sky. not much of a problem on a non sportsbike.

    Anyone else use them ?

I nearly bought one, but I too was sceptical and as the dealer hadn't
actually tried it I ended up getting a standard factory replacement
    for my FM.

Now, it *says* anti-fog on it, and it's true it doesn't fog up. What
it does do is *film* up, so to speak. On damp days and long journeys
(like monday - I did a 200 mile round trip) I get a film of water
that's nowhere near as bad to see through but it's slightly
off-putting. It's like having a translucent patch over one eye.

I have never seen one, for some reason.

Is it the same theory ? if so, surely a patent violation then.

Isn't that the same as the Fog City visor insert? I bought a
reactolite version from Busters a couple of years ago and it's pretty
damn good. The only time it fogged up slightly was when it was about
    -5C.

No, the 'pinlock' arrangement is uniquie to Shoei.

Oh, and it breaks really easily.
