I'd be all for a windfarm somewhere near me. Personally I think they're
as cool as all ****. There was a proposal for one on the slopes of a
small mountain (more of a hill) near me, but the nimbys won the day.

The cunts, the utter utter cunts. Don't these selfish bastards realise
that the easy life they have has to be paid for somehow? That every kwh
they squander with their all electric lifestyle has to be generated
using precious and irreplaceable fossil fuel? Fossil fuel that has a
much more valuable role as feedstock for the chemical industry. Has any
one of them ever tried to generate power using a bicycle and alternator?
It's not until you realise just how much it actually takes to generate
power that you get a feeling for how much you use.

    <end rant>

    Tiny-minded cunts.
Amen to that, Bruvver. I cannot understand why solar panels aren't
made compulsory on all new buildings.

**** me. I agree with Blaney.

My nephew commissions them. Part of the process involves testing the
emergency stop button inside the pod at the top of the shaft. He has to
get the thing up to full chat and press a button. Nobody told him that
the braking system is rather efficient and that he should secure
himself. Apparently the shaft is designed to flex to absorb the energy.
He emerged rather bruised after testing the first one.

The job also involves dangling on a rope from cranes/helicopters as the
prefabricated bits are assembled. Rather him than me.

IIRC Denmark passed a law saying that all villages over a certain
population had to have a wind turbine? Seems sensible to me.

The visual aspect wouldn't bother me but isn't there a noise issue as
    well though?

Only when you are very close to it. TBH it's quite a pleasant 'whoosh

I live in the countryside and there is a bloody great wind turbine not
so far away, I may have to bimble passed some time and see if there is
    any associated noise factor.
    I'll take a woosh there.

That's a reference to townies moving out to the countryside for peace
and quiet. Then moaning about farmer's tractors at 6am, cocks
crowing, birds larking, cows mooing, wind roaring, etc.

The countryside isn't a silent place.

Not much. If you stand right close you'll hear the whoosh and from
further away there's a conglomeration of whooshing, but really, it's not

Just heard today a windfarm in Co Cork had been turned down by the govt
planning board on account of some fucking bird.

Got you, I moved out of the city 2 years ago and don't regret it, I
like the backdrop of country sounds.
    And those noisy motorbikes...

  19. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (The Older Gentleman) saying
    something like:
Not quite; a much more appealing bird.

Hen Harrier. I can understand the disruption caused by the installation
being grounds for objection; afair, the hen harrier is ground nesting. I
don't see any grounds for objection relating to the actual operation of
the windfarm, it being well established that birds successfully co-exist
    with rotating blades.
