FIM Lap times

I watched both the 250 and MotoGP races this morning.

What caught my attention was the qualifing times. The fastest 250 was 1:39
and the fastest MotoGP was about 4 seconds faster, if I remember correctly.
But the interesting part was that the fastest 250 was faster than the slower
    MotoGP guys.

I saw the same thing when I worked the AMA tire test at Miller Motorsports
Park in April. Some of the 600s were faster than the Superbikes. It just
shows that rider skill is the deciding factor when it comes to going fast.

So this begs the question: do we really need litre bikes?

Is there any way to watch it on the Internet?

To race around a track, no. To ride comfortably on the street, yes.

    It's really track dependent too.
You wouldn't see that at some of the faster tracks like Road America (AMA)

Or Monza like a few weeks ago.
Here are the Superbike - SuperSport times there:

    WSBK
    1:46:18 Baylis - Winner
    1:51:07 Battaini - 23rd

    WSS
    1:52:370 Tiberio - Winner
    1:55:851 Le Blanc - 23rd

These are the fastlap race times each ran.

Didn't you say the MotoGP bikes were faster than the 250s? There's your
    answer.

I've posted many questions re: lap times. The last I recall was a while
    back re: car vs. motorcycle.

But I am getting old, and I drink too much (heh, just kiddin').

The point I was trying to make, is that pretty much all sport bikes are damn
fast. Fast enough to kill just about anyone that isn't prepared.

And I know a teenager on an FIM 125cc would probably kick my ass on my F4i.

You could say the same thing about just about any motorized vehicle. There
will always be people who fall into the "not prepared" category, no matter
what. Should we stop selling liter bikes because they can be dangerous in
    unskilled hands? No way.
I don't doubt it. Does that mean you want to trade your F4i in for an RS125?

All true. Nah, litre bikes need to be sold, but I am not sure we "need"
    one...
Hmmm. I'd love an RS125, trading my F4i isn't an option. I can dream.
But then a 9 year old on a 50cc moped would kick my ass.

    I'll never win. Crap.

My dictionary defines "need" (verb) as "Require (something) because it is
    essential or very important."

And then there's Maslow's "hierarchy of needs", where each type of need can
only be addressed after more fundamental needs are satisfied.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

So yeah, given that I have plenty of food and water, have shelter, have my
basic safety needs met, etc. I can honestly say that I need liter bikes.

Whether you need one is entirely your call.
A 125cc GP would be super fun on the track I think. I don't know how well it
would handle with 200 pounds of rider aboard, though.

Yeah, that is what I'm talkin' about.

I once did 200 laps on a Z50a around the 2 car driveay, second gear, wide
open. Ruined the left side of the knobbies. :)
