Actually, true enough - I've overtaken on double-whites in the car
    plenty of times.

Actually, I really don't see the point of them. So, some man from the
ministry is going to decide when it's safe to overtake, despite having
no idea about the vehicle I'm in/on, the vehicle I'm overtaking, and
    the road conditions.

And I know plenty of places where double whites restrict perfectly
safe overtaking points, only to disappear a few 100 yds down the road
at a point where overtaking would be suicidal.

    Transit driver did, yes.

Fiestavan man gained a large dent rear of his nearside door, however.
Did you know that TNT stop their livery at the gutter line? The only
time I've ever raised my head above gutter level, as I flew over the
roof I looked down and, rather absurdly I'll admit, noted that the
orange paint stopped at the gutterline and the roof was just plain
    white ...

Odd the things that you notice as you spin helplessly through the air
awaiting the arrival of something solid innit eh. All right I wasn't in
the air but on the ground rolling but nevertheless the memory of when I
went past a bloke and noted how shiny his boots were is still as fresh
as the day it was picked.

    In my limited experience yes.

Exactly that happened to me years ago approaching the Gants Hill
roundabout on the 12. They paid 100% of the damage to me and to the car
on the outside lane, who was totally blameless apart from the fact he
was there in the first place

And it is also illegal to park on a stretch of road with double white
    lines.

  10. So, how fast should an R reg Yamaha be able to accelerate
from 35mph to 55mph to overtake a car + trailer on a clear
straight NSL road? (I'd guess it was around 400cc).

I don't know - how fast can an R reg Nissan accelerate? It rather depends
on whether you're talking Nissan Micra or ZX300.

    Why do you ask?

I get annoyed when they go by so fast I cannot make out the model.

    Because that's what I want.

Personally, I couldn't give a flying **** if he wants to spead his
guts out over the tarmac. It's the other poor cunts he hits on the way
    that I feel sorry for.

No, but it happens all to rarely nowadays. More often than not, I
find myself travelling faster when I'm in the car than other people on
    bikes.

  19. To be helpful...

400cc bikes generally make around the 55-60bhp mark,
and weigh about 160kg + rider weight.

Work the rest out for yourself.

I shouldn't expect a biker to always use all the acceleration
    available for an overtake though?
