Most will. Disc valve ones may not.
Well, air will leak past the rings eventually but there's a huge
amount of internal friction, not least of which are the camshafts that
are loaded by the valve springs. A low gear will amplify all of this.

    They all do that sir..
Depends dunnit.. I've seen model 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines run
backwards. It is indeed unlikely to happen in a car engine though. The
cam has a fixed relation to the crank shaft, and this is true even for
an engine turning backwards btw... the only thing I'd be wary of is
putting too much strain on the cam belt / chain tension system if it had
    one.
    Heh..

Sometimes I think these car drivers make it their duty to slow people
down, who they think are going too quickly. Like some sort of perverted
    road angels.

My mileage varies. What I try to do in the best interests of making
progress and staying alive is this:

If the traffic is at standstill: somewhere around 10-15mph faster
    depending on gaps.

If the traffic is moving up lass than 40ish: 0-30 mph faster depending
on local speed limits and gaps.
If the traffic is doing >40: I am too busy making progress to give a
    **** about the dials.

    Shameful admission time...

....I find myself doing exactly the same at times. Even to the extent
of pulling out to overtake into the path of a chap on a Fireblade
about a year ago. He came millimetres from hitting me and I'm glad he
had bloody good braking reactions. I simply didn't check my mirrors
well enough. I certainly deserved the abusive gestures he gave.

    Won't happened again though.

    Christofire scribbled:
    Heh,

I've seen my mates Capri engine puttering backwards after he tried to
    re-assemble the head...

God, that confused us for a little while, and then we all laughed, he
threw tools about and stormed off inside the house for the rest of the
    day whilst we fixed it.

  9. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Simian
"Get his number, Maude; we'll report him to the next police officer we
    see."

I've come across this from self-righteous old cunts who are all upset by
someone actually overtaking them when they're doing the legal maximum
    for the road.

There was a program on telly that followed a number of car drivers. One
of them was a self righteous type that took great joy in preventing
people overtaking him. Quite why these people do this I don't know.

I see the misunderstanding now. We do not have parallel motorbike
experience. I only started riding a bike after 13 years of experience as
a cage driver. Therefore, I have only seen cage drivers behaving worse
in the time I've been riding.

I'd also spent a lot of time riding cycles before I drove a cage, so was
    already aware of their shortcomings.

I've been knocked off filtering between slow-moving cars on a stretch of A5
    dual-carriagway.

I was probably doing 20-30mph more than the traffic I was passing.

My new rule-of-thumb is not to filter between a vehicle and a space it can
    viably change lanes into (IYSWIM).

Filtering between lorries is great fun - especially if you emerge in front
of them on just your back wheel.]

I had my first real taste of filtering last week on the M40 / M25 / M4.

It made me realise I truly am a crap rider.

    It was quite fun though.
