Filling stations running out

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Nov 13, 2007.

  1. Pah, you haven't seen real price increases.

When I can out here in Jan, I could pay $2.45 for a gallon of regular
unleaded. Some of the local stations are up to $3.65, and the news
reported it could easily hit $4 a gallon by the end of the month.

  4. I'm not sure you would, if your car only got 10-20 miles to the gallon.

You can't buy relatively economical European cars in the States?

    Wow!

Well, you can get a few Euro 'Compacts', and looadsa Jap ones (many
US-made now), but they do generally seem to put a 2-litre lump[1] in
the base models, so you're not often going to see European levels of
    fuel economy.

[1] It always amuses me the way the septics will refer to models in a
range not by the engine size, but by its layout. So the base model is
    a four, going up-market to a V6, but a proper one will be a V8, of
    course.

Not what we'd call economical (ie, the smaller stuff). But you can buy
relatively economical *Japanese* cars over there, and they're doing
that. AFAIK one of the best-selling cars in the US over the past few
    years was the Toyota Camry.

  8. What sir needs is a CG125. Though sir may have trouble being taken
    seriously on one in America.

    I'm bidding on one currently!

Sounds like it's a good time to get big, thirsty cars dirt cheap.

Well, it's not exactly dirt cheap (through unofficial importers) but
one of these is definitely in my shortlist
    http://www.calonder.com/neuwagen.php?shid=32

A hell of a lot cheaper and much better-looking than the
officially-imported Chrysler version (around chf90k for the same
spec), but still nowhere near as cheap as in the US at aound $32k +
tax (==chf36k). How much would a personal import cost, I wonder?

It's a 300C in a posh frock. Poisonally, I think the Charger is the best
    looking LX-platform model.

Big, brash, lacking in class and designed to flaunt the owner's wealth.

    Yep. Ace's dream machine.

They look better in the flesh. It's certainly, err, imposing. Although
not quite as much so as http://www.calonder.com/neuwagen.php?shid=66
which is what I really want (although I'm not sure about those
    wheels).

    <looks>

Not bad, I suppose, but nowhere to easily dump all your skis and kit.

hmm. although the new one - particularly the hard top - is better, the
MX-5 is still a good car spoilt by association with hairdressers.

    See my other post.

Anyhoo, looks like we'll hang on to the Volvo for this season - the
purchase of a new ski apartment and the payment of last years taxes
are a more urgent call on the surplus cash at the moment.
