I fekkin' hate this running in malarky. I've now done 270 miles on my 2
week old SV and I'm at the verge of giving 'er a good seeing to. I was
groovin' down a well known back road today and kind of forgot about the bike
being sorta new. Every time I got a chance to check the revs they were 7-8k
(eek!). She's begging for it honest! Am I gonna **** the engine? (owners
manual says 5.5k for first 600 miles -pah!)

Let it warm up properly, vary the revs as much as possible, and don't
use more than about 75% throttle for the first few hundred miles..

That's my approach to running in... 19K on the bike so far and it's
    running wonderfully.

Two weeks to do 270 miles!

Strewth, when I bought my last CBR, I picked it up on the Monday
afternoon, went out every evening to clock up the required 600 miles
and had it back at the dealers by 9am on the Saturday morning for its
    first service.

No, the bike's that GOOD! I'm having too much fun and I desperately want to
give it the beans. I am going faster on this than I did on my ZX-9 and
thats after a 2 year break AND on a spankin new bike. It's sooooo easy to
ride fast. I know the ZX9 is a faster bike top speed, !/4 mile and all but
the SV is EASY for an idiot (like me) to ride fast. I nearly got my knee
down on it today - I thought I was riding my minimoto (Polini 911r).

How would you know? At an average of around 18 and a bit miles a day
you are putting in a lot less practice than your average Italian riding
god and it is his actual job to ride faster.

No offence, like, but I ran my 50 in for 500 miles in less than a week.

No offence taken. Simple arithmetic, given that a 50 only does 30 mph means
that you averaged about 2.4 hours on your 50 each day for a week. You're
    way more dedicated than I.

    Cheers

Well stop fucking bleating about it then. You have made your choice:
to buy a new bike and not to ride it. Either correct the situation or
shut the **** up - your call.

It was a lot longer than that. Running that thing is was at 20mph!
Dedicated isn't a word I'd use to describe myself. I was 16, it was the
only (apart from a bicycle) transport I had and the novelty factor was
high. I bought in October 1995 and remember going out in the freezing
mornings just so I could ride the thing.

I should point out that the 1995 is in fact a typo. Much as a ten year
reduction in my age could do (or not), I should point out that the said
bike in my sixteenth year was actually purchased in 1985.

On current form, I reckon I could run it out in less than a week.
