Who else thinks it should be the end of the line for this
programme? No comparison whatsoever to Top Gear.

.... and if Top Gear make good on their previous idea of getting that
loony German 'Ring Taxi bint then VBH is toast too ;)

I may be biased but I think the motoring shows _NEED_ a regular
dedicated bike slot on them, I'm guessing for every motorcyclist in this
country there's another 10 ex & wannabe bikers who'd appreciate the
    coverage.

It's a pity Clarkson doesn't like bikes and calls the shots. The other
two are into bikes, Hammond has a GS and I'm sure I read the other bloke
    has a Guzzi.

  5. Relucantly agree Top Gear is better.

I strongly think Fifth Gear should stay on our screens though - what
would replace it? A decorating show? Mindless game show?

Steve Parry emerged from their own little world to say
Top Gear have tried it before. We got Chris Goffey in BMW shell suit
leathers riding an R-GS or that Berry twat dribbling on about customs.

The current format is entertaining and they pack good value into their one
hour slot. If they were to add regular bike reviews then something else
would have to be dropped. What do you suggest bearing in mind the current
format has just won an International award?

  8. IMHO, that's rather like suggesting only one motorcycling magazine is
needed. How many ukrm-ers read more than one motorcycling publication?

I watch both TG and FG and agree that overall TG provides the better
viewing, but I would not advocate cutting FG from the screens, because
it is always enlightening and informative to see where the differences
in subjective opinions occur in tests of the same models - just like
reading a road test of the same bike in two or more motorcycling
    magazines.

    I really doubt that.

Total motorcycle parc in the UK is about one and a quarter million,
IIRC. That's registered machines. And a lot of people (like me) own
    more than one bike.

I always used to use the skiing analogy, since a few years ago, the
number of skiers and the number of motorcyclists in the UK was pretty
much the same. Skiing has grown in popularity, while motorcycling
hasn't much - I think there are over a million skiers in the UK now,
    but that'll include small kids.

I don't think there are 10 million Brits who are interested in bikes.
Like it or not, this is a minority interest.

That said, a *good* bike presenter would interest viewers who have no
interest in bikes per se. I mean, I'm not wildly interested in sports
cars, but I loved last week's three-car shootout.

Ttrouble is, as someone else has pointe dout, nobody's ever found
anyone who could do the job decently.

    Hm...

    <dusts off CV>

If you want to take the bike/ski analogy further, consider that the top
bike publication, MCN, sells about 120,000 copies a week. The top
monthly, Bike, sells about 90,000 copies. The top skiing journal
manages, ISTR, about 25,000-30,000 copies, and for a very short time
    only.

What about that stupid "Cool Wall" bit. Complete waste of time, that.

Lemmiwinks, The Gerbil King emerged from their own little world to say
I quite enjoyed watching Hammond eat Clarkson's picture.

The banter between the presenters is part of the reason why the package
works as well. Take that away and you have just another bland show about
    acceleration times and cup holders.
