I was watching Floyd being interviewed in France just last night. He looked
like shit so one can't be surprised.

He always made me laugh out loud as he swayed around the screen and cooked
with a broad brush. A snob but an unpretentious one.

More interesting than Jamie fucking Oliver. But then so is snail racing.

Me too. High **** factor fun. Sad in a way to see him go the way of
Oliver Reed and Peter O'Toole, but inevitable I suppose.

His comment on the dumbing down of the meaning of 'chef' was
    particularly caustic.

I've still got a couple of 'Floyd' cast iron saucepans.

Christ. He must have died watching himself on TV.

    I blame Keith Allen.

    I didn't realise he was only 65.
One of my favourites was him in Spain walking (developing into
staggering) from one tapas bar to the next.
ITYM more interesting than most of the current tv chefs.

  6. I watched it too and agree with you. Got a few Floyd cook books
    somewhere.

I think I'd add James Hunt to the list.

    RIP Mr. Floyd.

I like Rick Stein's brand of cooking though I've been told he is a twat to
    work around.

so, in 2009 we've lost luminar talents such as Ricardo Montalban,
Patrick Swayze and now - damn you, cruel gods - Keith Floyd?

    Will the tragedy never end?

Who's next for ****'s sake - please, not Steve Hislop

Indeed, only a few months older than me and he looked like an 80 year old
    wreck.
I liked his slightly chaotic style, his cooking was usually only half
a step from disaster. He will be missed.

    That is sad.

I find myself pondering what has to be one of the worst rhymes in
recording history - still, at least they took out the lyrics when they
used it for the cookery shows.

    # I can think of a lot worse places to be
    # Like down in the street
    # Or down in the sewer
    # Or even on the end of a skewer

A true bon viveur in a style we don't seem to see any more, I for one
    will mourn his passing,
I'll be cooking something from "Floyd on France" tonight as a tribute
    to him.

TBH, he'd popped up in the media so much in recent days, I'd assumed
he was dead already and this was an anniversary or something...

Very sad. I liked him a lot, he didn't give a **** about authority,
loved cooking and wanted to share his delight in it with everyone
else. Imho, the original Floyd on Fish was the best, the lengths he
went through to prove anyone could cook, anywhere, anytime.
