The idea in a democracy is that *you* put some effort in and persuade
some other folk to vote in the same way. It would've taken just 2449 more
votes for UKIP, or >28,000 for the Lib Dems, to keep Nick Griffin out.

If Gordon hangs on 'til May, there'll be no such thing.

    Old Eric's only got a 5,695 majority.

There are 352 bigger majorities than that.
You'd prefer it to be hidden? I'd prefer such a party to be clearly
    labelled.

  3. Would you care to have the massive flaw in your argument pointed out to
you, or would you prefer just to let the stupidity wither on the vine?

There is no 'extension', hidden or otherwise.

This seat isn't red. As I've said elsewhere, if they put a blue
rosette on the rotting corpse of a pig, it would be elected to
    Parliament here.

I'm just outside Carlisle; Penrith & The Border. Eric's standing down
next time anyway, and to be honest I think he was elected on
personality rather than politics - he's a Carlisle native, regularly
seen in town shopping like everyone else.
I'd prefer such a party to be clearly disqualified.

You so do believe that your vote counts

In so many cases, it doesn't

People have had enough of a system that they see doesn't

  8. You're really not being very bright here.

    OK, then.

If people vote, there is a chance that their votes won't make a
    difference.

If they don't vote, there is *absolutely no chance* of making a
difference. It's not hard to understand.

    Hardly rocket science, that bit

however, as I've said before, if you are in an area which is rigidly Lab
or cons, whatever you vote has no chance of having an effect. Its all
skewed, of course, by the total breakdown in confidence of late

    Also ...

What choice do you have when "none of the above" is all you can say
because you don't agree with what anyone who has a chance of getting in
    has to say

I would say that this election was one time when not voting actually did
make a difference (I, of course, did vote, as I always do)

You seem determined to prop up a failing system, unable to see that
significant change is needed in order to connect politics with people

    Err, bollocks.

Wallasey (where I used to live) was a staunch Con seat for many years.
Then one day Lab got in.... and held it.
Place your vote for someone, some party who has a touch of what you
believe in. This is very effectual in a PR vote IMO as it has the effect
of being an anit vote against the more extreme groups.

Peopl faught and died for the right to vote, it shopuld not be wasted.
personally I think they should publish the list of all non voters so we
can point out to them they cannot complain when things are not how they
    want.

So, by people *not* voting say Lib/Lab/Con, they were happy to see the
BNP share increase and therefore effectivly elected them ?
How can not voting be a significant change ?

I would never like to see it being law to vote, but I have 2 thoughts.

    1) If you vote in local elections it shows you take an interest and
care, you shouldm then get a discount on council tax.

    2) Everyone should get 2 votes, a positive and an "anti-vote", that way
you can show you disgust in any particular party/person.

If the non-voters could have a trip back to see the utterly shite
conditions that existed for most of their forebears, and the exuberance
with which their forebears were put down for daring to speak up, they'd
    think again.
