How much should I be figuring on paying for just me and bike to
Ireland (Holyhead to Dublin or Dunloghaire) for a couple of days at
end of May. I am looking at £75 on fast boat or £60 on slug boat.
    Is that the going rate?.
    Thanks for replies

No - if you ring them and explain you don't want to pay that much
they'll often take you across for a fiver, just to fill the boat up.

No, I'm sure that's the coming back rate, too.

It might be best *not* trying Liverpool! The original sailings from
here to Dublin have been stopped by by the Steam Packet and another
company has now begun the sailings, and it isn't particularly cheap.

The online quotes for a bike do not include the rider cost either, so
you need to pay for the bike and the rider seperately, with costs
ranging from ?35.00 - ?40.00 one way, then you need to pay the
passenger fare too, although they don't state whether you are paying
the 'additional passenger' rate of ?15.00 one way, or the foot
passenger fare ranging from ?20.00 - ?25.00 one way.

I think you can get from Holyhead over there a lot cheaper than the
    above would work out to.

Well, that makes sense. You don't need to factor in the rider if you're
    just fencing the bike overseas.

I'm looking at booking a single fare from Dublin to Holyhead at the
moment. For me and the bike it's about 70 Euros if I take an
afternoon/evening sailing. Suits me as I have a mate on the north Wales
coast who I would like to spend an evening getting pissed with.

I'm flying from Luton to Belfast to buy a new bike. I'll be riding it
home via Dublin and the ferry to Holyhead. My best mate, Gus, lives in
a place called Penmaenmawr on the A55 so I'll be stopping the night amd
    getting pissed there.

Tony Vorderman - of Tony's of Prestatyn fame - used to live in Bedford.
It's where his ex-wife gave birth to their now famous daughter Carole.

I really recommend the fast ferry. Saves a lot of pissing around.

Both Irish Ferries (Swift) and Stena run them.

If, as I suggested, you go to www.stenaline.ie you will find Dun
Laoghaire to Holyhead is ?66 up to the 26th May. It's a far faster
crossing than Dublin, there is only an HSS on the route.

Getting to DL is something of an art form. You hit the Dublin ring road
(M-Way) near the airport, proceed anti-clockwise until it runs out of
steam, then take a long involved rat run through several housing areas.
It is signposted though. On the M50 road you will arrive at a toll
    booth, IT ONLY TAKES EURO.

You will make the 16:05 HSS no problemo.

The M-way from Dundalk to Dublin needs to be watched for Plod at the
slip roads, he WILL be lurking, between those intersections you can hit
186mph though ;o) The Dundalk stretch has another toll both. EURO ONLY.

?10 will get you through the journey. Fill tank in Belfast then again
before the ferry. The tank has a baglux cover as you know. You can have
the tank bag too Loz, it's a black dual tier expandable with map pocket.

If the Beemer is on the road I may take a run down with you.
