Oddly enough, I had to as she lost it in Sligo. I couldn't report mine
lost too or we'd have been out of cash.

  7. What I find priceless is their lack of willingness to simply refund
someone, instead of having you hassle the useless cunts who were
supposed to be looking after it for you.

Still, I suppose if a million tourists forget/can't be arsed to claim
the money back, it's a nice little earner for the revenuers.

  8. It's the same everywhere people buy up houses as second/holiday homes. A
few don't matter, but there is a threshold percentage above which the
locals start to get a bit aggrieved.

No it isn't and whilst I realise £24K isn't a large amount of money it is
enough to do something with rather than just go out and get pissed
    with.

I'm lucky that living where I do and moving in when I did my mortgage is
approx 25% of teh current value of my house. We have also just spent a
fair amount making it exactly what we want so I can't see me moving in teh
    forseeable future.
You met my wife? I'd need this Fridays Euro millions jackpot to retire
    with Julie.)
In all such cases you have to consider what I have been offered against
what I might get in court. Whilst I do have ongoing niggly pain it doesn't
stop me doing the majority of things. I play squash twice a week, enjoy my
bike and walking. OK, I can't lift heavy stuff anymore but there are
always people on hand to help or at worst I pay a man to do it. Currently
I have Axa healthcare through work so I don't pay anything for my
weeklyish physio sessions. The doc reckoned I'd need approx 10 sessions a
year. this has been calculated using some standard court tables. My
solicitor reckoned I would be risking maybe getting another £2-3K against
possibly losing the same amount. If you had asked me at the time of the
accident what I would expect I probably would have guessed about 10K. The
first offer from the ins co was £6K. Two separate docs have confirmed the
bone is stable and shouldn't suffer any additional risk of arthritis etc.

That it would, my wine rack only holds 37 bottles though.

Its a reasonable sum of money, certainly to a lot of people I know its
more than 2 years net salary. It is however enough to make something of.
One thing that has run through my head is that I have often considered
going EKS. However I have always held back because I felt I needed to
either guarantee at least 12-18 months initial work to build up a slush
fund to see me through a break in contracts. This may be the buffer I need
to make teh jump. I have some serious consideration ahead.(Anyone looking
for WebSphere AppServer EKS with experience of Java, OO A&D, MQ,
MQSI(WBIMB), UNIX, Linux. Worked in large blue chip company for the last 8
years being outsourced 18 months ago to a global IT shop. Looking for work
in teh geographical region of north west, down as far as Holmes chapel, up
to carlise, across from Liverpool to Leeds. Basically up to about 90 mins
    commute of East Lancs).
