    Bear says...
I need 'something', even if I have to pay for it.

Hospital appointment over now, and they gave me good news and a reduced
strength prism lens for my specs. Apparently, my eyes are getting
better since the initial extra lens was fitted, so they can back it off
    a bit from a 9 to a 7.

I should be happier, so I'm going out for a play on the bike.

Well done and good luck with the (long) recovery. I know from much lesser
experience that _any_ knee injury is an absolute fucker for healing. I had a
crappy little accident on a water slide (just stretched the ligaments a
bit), and even that took two years before I stopped noticing it. Then I
fucked-up the same knee again in a crappy snowboarding accident, and that
    took three years to recover.

Still, at least 'crushed by a car' is a bit more manly than 'hit seven
year-old girl at bottom of water slide.

Drinking the beer isn't that hard.

It's driving the taxi afterwards that I'm
    not sure about.

University is somewhat more expensive here in Canada.
But nearly not as expensive as the USA.

That said, yes, it will pay for more than 2 years here.
Assuming I pick the cheapest university and get my
    books mostly second hand.

TOG@toil scribbled on the back of a
    napkin:
Let's hope he'll be able to bend the knee far enough, otherwise he'd
    need to buy a Hardley..

Rightly so! Was it really that long ago!

Glad to hear some good news, shame can't get another bike yet, but there's
plenty of time once you've graduated.

  17. When on behalf of Emily I was pursuing the claim[1] against the driver
who ran her down on a crossing my solicitor showed me his big book of
possible damages. As you say the damages for injury are really
insignificant compared to the amount of pain endured. Especially when
at the time some dozy tart who lost her job somewhere in the MOD for
getting pregnant was awarded IIRC ~250K.

[1] Broken femur, 8 weeks or so in traction, slightly shorter leg £10K

  18. Emily's was 19th December 1994, finally settled 1st February 2002.
Some delaying tactics by the other side who finally gave up 2 weeks
before it was due to be in court.

  19. Glad that part's over, hope the knee improves some more.

    Boots Blakeley scribbled:
Shit. That is bad. Hope she got a decent settlement after that lot.

Mine is being delayed by my side, as it benefits me :)
