Heh. Some years ago I had a set of Kawasaki GT750 clocks for sale.
Perfect nick, all electronics working, and 94,000 miles on the
    odometer.

The potential buyer sucked his teeth and muttered something about not
really wanting that sort of mileage showing on his bike, and I pointed
out that in a few months or a year, maybe, it would click over to 00000
    again.

    Sold.

Glad you are both alright-ish, could have been much worse I guess.

    Anyhoo, GWS both of you.

I would be very wary of this.

If it turns out she should have been wearing specs her insco could possibly
    have a valid exit clause.

Far better to claim off the insco than the driver.

That was the thought that went through my mind when I read this.
    Nightmare scenario.[/QUOTE]

Is this a good time to remind you that it is less than a year until
our respective eldests head out on their own? Sooner for yours than
    mine.

I think a few fingernails will get chewed the first time he's out
    playing in the traffic.

My daughter threw me off the back of her RM125 when she wheelied. I
didn't stop cursing her for weeks as I recovered. It was my fault for
getting on a motocrosser with a slightly unhinged 15 year old girl at
    the controls I suppose.

Bugger. Glad injuries are confined to mild orthopedic ones and nothing
more serious. Hope the pair of you get well soon, and don't beat
yourself up about it. It was not your fault.

The same could have happened in the car, and Emily could have been just
as badly hurt. Would you feel as guilty then?

Seriously, you can't blame yourself or feel guilty, but you can't stop
being her dad I suppose, and worrying goes with the territory.

  9. I thought, in those circumstances, the ins co would cough up and then go
    after her for re-imbursement?

There's some principle of insurance law involved, but I can't recall
quite what it is. Something about the ins co having to cover the risk,
and take it on the chin, else insurance becomes meaningless.

  10. Two months, in fact.
I know. I was chatting to my Ma about it the other night. There is *so
much* he needs to be told about... well, about just knowing when
somebody is going to do something silly.

    Like:

When filtering up a line of stationary traffic, stay *right out* in the
other lane (oncoming traffic permitting) because someone *will* get
bored of sitting in the wueue and try to pull a U-turn. The extra couple
of feet give you better visibility and more room to maoeuvre.

In winter, watch for the exhaust plumes. The car's about to pull out
from the kerb, even though it hasn't indicated.

Just because the lights have turned green doesn't mean it's safe to pull
away. People jump the light often these days. Just check before going.

Gravel accumulates in the centre of junctions and is slippery.

    Wet leaves are more slippery.

The geezer up there with steamed-up windows can't see you.

And more, and more and more. All the stuff you and I have learned over
the years, when the traffic was lighter and things less 'edgy'.

There's a really good article in Bike this month about risk and how good
aware riders are relaxed and their peripheral vision is taking in
everything and filtering it, and I thought (boasting apart): "That's how
    I ride".

And I know he *will* crash because everyone bloody does.....

My lad didn't crash either the TS50 or the NSR, and was a pretty tidy rider
    too.

Bastard now has a car though

You could be right, particularly wrt injury, not sure about damage though (I
left the insurance industry years ago).

ISTR in such instances cover reverted to Road Traffic Act cover only, which
    was basically only TP Injuries.

    But wibble flip etc.

    GWS etc mate.

It must feel worse than normal with it being your daughter. The injuries
sound pretty harsh for such a low speed spill though. I hope it isn't her
cruciate as that can be a bitch.

    I couldn't agree more.

He now has bugger all money, and what he does have gets wasted on more shiny
    crap for his car.

    I really could cry.

    You aren't wrong.

On the upside though, once the NSR is finally sold I'll have more room in my
