Fazer new v old

I bought 'Bike' this month. I read the review of the new Fazer, tested
against the old. Apparently the new one is disappointing. Handling is
good but the engine lets it well down. The new Fazer gets the thumbs
down. They even thought a Bandit might be better...

I happened to pick up 'Ride' today, in a shop, and with neither the
money to hand to buy it nor the inclination to buy both mags in one
month, had a quick browse at the Fazer article. I couldn't read it all,
that would be rude, but did scan and read the end section. Apprently
Yamaha have got it dead right, made some good tweaks and the new Fazer
is definitely better than the old, making it seem dated, no less.

So what gives? Are 'Ride' sponsored by Yamaha and 'Bike' by some other
marque? Or are bike tester/journalists just yaking and don't really
know what they are talking about?

If I was in the market for a Fazer I would get a test ride and if I found it
to handle and perform to my satisfaction, then I may well purchase. I
prefer my own decision to anyone elses, and I treat all sport-bike journos'
articles with a pinch of salt. As far as improvements over the old go, the
styling (of the naked one) is more to my taste, and they couldn't continue
selling the old one due to emmisions regulations anyway, so it's a bit of a
    mute point.

Bike always picks a Honda, if there isn't one then I think they flip a
coin. As for Ride I bought a copy today to read on the train. I was asleep
    by Watford...

Except they picked the naked SV over the Hornet last month.

But hey, what do they know ;-)
