Fazar 600 query?!?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by !Speedy Gonzales!, Jul 13, 2004.

  1. I'm on the verge of buying my first bike and am looking at a FZS600 Fazer
from a dealer in Scotland. The bike is a 'Y' plate for £3000 but it is also
an import with 20000KM's on the clock. The dealer is putting brand new tyres
on it and it comes with full year MOT/Tax after being serviced as well.

Firstly, how easy/expensive is it to change the clocks to MPH?

Secondly, what is the frequency for replacing the cam belt on these bikes? I
don't know a lot about the mechanics of a bike but I heard elsewhere that
the cam belt/chain requires replacing at 20000 but I don't know if that's
    KM's or Miles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Incidentally, before anyone takes offence, my 'newsgroup name' is just a
name, not an indication that I speed and bring a bad name on bikers! I've
used it for 4 years or so and it's 'cos I'm small and enjoy wearing big hats
    ;-)
Seriously though, just passed my test so will be taking it VERY easy!

You could look at the Fazer's club board to get an idea of prices.

As posted here a few days ago http://www.redial-uk.co.uk/ does speedo
conversions. Might be worth giving them a bell.
It'll have a cam chain not a belt and it should last pretty much the
lifetime of the bike. It certainly shouldn't need changing at 20,000
    miles.

  6. Big bike is for me, cycle is for my dad. The old boy never did like these
mountain bikes so an old raleigh will be perfect for him!
Anyway, better not get off topic, if this was ed.general they would start
moaning at you, someone would suggest going to Grays of George Street for
whatever I wanted or the thread would eventually evolve into a discussion of
    the musical merits of Hawkwind!

  7. I hope no-one local is looking for a Fazer if this is a good deal, but it's
Alvins. The listed price is £3500 but the guy I spoke to was willing to
negotiate, hence price and new tires.
I now hope you are more than happy with your CBF James!

I suppose you're talking of an old fazer model with analog meters...new 2004
model has digital ones and it's piece of a cake - just press on a button...
I've heard that old Fazers were a bit of oil eaters, so if you do buy it,
you should regularly check the oil level.

I expect you will be telling us next that you don't intend to put loud
cans on or a small number plate. Well **** you too. If that is your
attitude you can just **** off then. We don't want your sort round here
    thank you very much.

Except that that particular discussion would never take place as we all
    agree they are crap.

Worth going to see live though. I saw them down the Kursaal 30 years
ago, I don't think I have ever been that stoned from passive toking
    either before or since.

club-unofficial) Don't have my manual in front of me or I'd look it up for
you. Not heard any one over at FOC-U mention probs with cam chains.Mine's a
99 and I've put about a thimbleful in having done about 4,500 on it.

Great stuff, but perhaps you could go and read the FFAQ, particularly
the bit about posting your replies below the text to which they're
replying. That way we'll all be happy :)
