Fatal in Napa county yesterday?

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by West Coast Joe, Aug 25, 2003.

  1. I have heard reports (3rd party) of two m/c accidents, one a fatal, in
Napa County yesterday. The fatal on a cruiser type, the other on a
    brand new Beemer R-1150-some-such-or-other.
    Any info from anyone here?
    Thanks,
    WCJ

Another consequence of passing on the double-yellow: The wrath of God.

Yes but if he had stayed IN the bike lane, beteen the double yellow
lines, he'd of been fine...why do you think they CREATED the bike
    lane! Think man think.

Yeah, they don't exactly sneak up on you, do they? Even if the storm
forms right where you are, you get some gusty winds and spectacular
cloud growth for many minutes before the first lightning strike.

There was a news item a few years ago about a rider on a BMW. A stray
dog fell off a railroad trestle over the freeway, hit the rider and
killed him. Wrath of Dog is nothing to sneeze at, either!

Hehehehe, not a funny situation, but a cleaver construction of the wording.[/QUOTE]

You're saying it was a hack job? A bit choppy? Slash and dice wording? Or that Barbz
was just cutting to the point? Sharp, edgy comments either way.

I am not a Traffic Engineer, but it would seem reasonable that one of
the factors determining whether an area was safe for passing would be
the volume of traffic the road carries. Could these changes be
    responding to increased traffic volume?

  10. Can't remember where I read this, but I believe the changes have to do
with...money. I believe the Feds reduced the distance allowed for clear
unobstructed sight lines which in their view permit safe passing areas.
Thus, any road repair which is done with even a small percentage of
Federal money must meet these new guidelines. This explains why for
example on Mt. Diablo (originally the entire road was striped with dashed
yellow) there is a straight clear stretch of new pavement with double
yellow, while the curves at either end are old pavement with dashed
    lines...
