The Pakistani guy who was driving the Accord I hit last year with my
SV650S has been prosecuted for fraud. He claimed he and his mother were
both suffering from whiplash after I wedged the bike under the back
bumper at approx 15mph. I told the insurance company that he was
driving alone and there was no-one else in the car - I also told them
he had no injuries at all and didn't even know I'd hit his car until I
shouted at him not to drive off. During a phone conversation with my
insurers I also pointed out that he'd been driving down a Luton street
covered by CCTV which would have shown him alone in the car, and also
woiuld have recorded the incident. I have a feeling they used this
    evidence to instigate a prosecution.

When I called them a few weeks ago they told me that I wouldn't be
needed at a court hearing because he'd pleaded guilty.

I'm sure they are not all lying scum, just most of them.

Good, it should be publicised to deter other cunts from similar
    claims.

    Agreed. Strongly.

Mrs WUN struck a glancing blow against another vehicle a few weeks back.
Totally her fault, but she swerved at the last moment so the RAV went
offside to nearside on the car she hit. Fair play, our insurance has to
pay for his repairs. Only now he's had to have "time off work" with
    "whiplash".

He's a lying, scamming ****. And the cheating bastard will almost
certainly get away with stealing our money.

It's the insurers money and your no claims bonus is toast anyway so
don't go having a seizure over it.

NCB protection is a wonderful thing.

It's not really the point. If I injured someone I'd expect the
insurance to payout or conversely in injured I'd want compensation.
This crying whiplash or some other hard to prove dodgy injury just
puts up all of our premiums.

    Really?

Try telling a selection of different companies that even though you've
had a crash you had protected ncb so it doesn't count. They don't ask
how many years ncb you've got, they ask if you've had an accident in
the last 5 years and then they load your premium.

Oh, I fully realise that. But, TBH, Direct Line (for it was they) have
handled this *so* smoothly and with such little hassle that they'd have
to be stupidly out-of-court to not get my renewal next time.

Or "theft" as it's known in other arenas.

It happens all the time and life's too short for me to get worked up
    over crap like that.

Whiplash is hard to prove but it's dead easy to say that anyone
claiming they're suffering from it is a fraud so how do you decide
who's actually laid up with a neck brace taking heavy duty pain
killers and who's watching daytime tv and having a laugh?

I've suffered from neck injuries twice playing rugby and it fucking
hurt. Both times I had to wear a brace for a few months and on neither
occasion did I leak copious amounts of blood or have bones sticking
out from under my ears but it was genuine. I know that some people
take the piss but if my ncb has been nuked back into the stone age
then it might as well go back to slime in a pond for all I care.

I moved from DL to Swiftcover[1] last month, because despite having
made no claims, the premium they quoted me was substantially higher
than last year, and a similar deal from Swiftcover was ~55% of what DL
    wanted.

[1] despite the annoying Iggy ads.

    darsy wibbled...
Did you get a new quote on DLs website?

The renewal notice is 50% higher than a new quote *every single year*.

A slight pain in the arse, but getting a new web quote, ringing them up and
getting them to "cancel your current policy at renewal and taking out the
new policy at the web rate" takes 5 mins, and that way they've still beaten
every other genuine[1] quote I've had.

[1] Not including the Confused.com/etc quotes that mysteriously go up by 10~
15% when you click through to the insurers site.

**** em. If they can't get the price right first time then they don't get
my business. Although I'm happy to switch brands within the RBS group to
save cash e.g. switch from Pru car insurance to Lloyds TSB[0]
The aggregators use a standardised form. Some companies ask additional
questions. The answers to these questions may affect their attitude to
risk. IME, most of the final prices are pretty close to the figures quoted
on the aggregator sites. You must have a complicated risk profile...

[0] this amused me somewhat, that Lloyds TSB sub out their car insurance to
    a major competitor
