FAOK - Headlight height?

My CB500 has one of those round headlights with the bolt either side.
The other day one of the bolts fell off whilst travelling at about 60,
which was fun because it also holds on the tax disc...

To cut a long story short, the bolt is now replaced but I adjusted it
wrong and the dipped beam is doing a very good job of illuminating
trees, the undersides of bridge, birds etc.

Is there a method of setting it to not blind people but still provide
illumination? I seem to remember something about parking a certain
distance from a wall and the top of the beam reaching a certain height.

    cheers

Or, have the headlight just tight, ride along at night and move it up
and down until it looks/feels right on main and dip.
