Fairing repair/replacement - help needed, Surrey/Hants

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Middle-aged Mutant Ninja Rider, Jun 29, 2004.

  1. Afternoon chaps and chapesses. Anyone fancy providing some useful
    advice for a ukrm lurker?

Hopefully someone on here can help - after a recent low speed run-in
with some tarmac (a sad tale of a country lane, a thunderstorm, some
mud and probably some diesel and cow shit to make life really
interesting. OK, OK, I was a clumsy git on a slippery road....), I now
have an - <ahem> - "alternatively styled" side and top panel on my
ZX-6R. The side is fairly well mangled around one of the mounting
points, but the rest is only scratches - albeit quite deep in places.

I have scoured Ebay and the breakers for replacements with no luck
yet. And after asking about buying new from Kawasaki, how I laughed
(*How* much for a new panel?!).

So does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get some
cosmetic damage repaired for a sensible amount of hard-earned? I'm
    based on the Surrey/Hampshire border.

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris

Tried them. The guy keeps on not phoning, and only reacts when I call
him. He _has_ quoted for the work and seems to be prepared to do it,
but the latest is that he wants to take away the fairings for at least
a week. They _can_ be done on site (which is what I thought Bike Medic
was all about...), but apparently the results are "better" if they are
taken away (so WTF does Bike Medic advertise high quality on-site
    repairs???).

So I'm now looking for alternatives. If there's nothing else, I guess
    I'll be riding a nekkid ZX6R for a week :-(

Be warned, they don't run very well naked. When I binned my first one I
took it out without any plastics on and it wasn't very happy ... something
to do with the ram-air, I suspect.

I was good for at least 110 in third, but then every change up just made it
slower. It wouldn't even pull 70 in top.

  6. Oh bugger....
Oh bugger^2..... I'm currently doing 90 miles a day. Doing that in 3rd
all the way would not be good, I suspect :-7

Many thanks for the warning! I might wait until I start the new
    (closer) job!

  7. Near as dammit Farnham, on the Surrey/Hants border.

Saw your post about repairs - are you nearby?

Bedfordshire, not far from Luton. Probably about 75 miles from you.

  9. OK, that's not beyond the realms of possibility. If the Plastex stuff
falls through, I'll be in touch.

    Many thanks.
