fairing/flush-mounted turn signals on a CBR929?

After a recent, minor incident with my '01 CBR929RR, I will need to replace
the right side front turn signal. This seems like a good opportunity to
convert from the original stalk-mounted turn signals to a set that mount
flush with the fairing and fender.

I'm guessing that at least one person on the newsgroup has done this mod
before... Can you tell me what brand of turn signals you purchased, where
you bought them, and what the part #s were? I looked in the Motorcycle
Accessory Warehouse online catalog at www.accwhse.com but it wasn't clear
which model # will fit the holes in the CBR929RR fairing (and I don't know
if those hole sizes are standardized).

    Thanks!

  2. The previous owner of my '00 929 did this mod, and I have to say I wish
he hadn't. The whole idea of forward-facing turn signals is to make
sure oncoming folks know you're preparing to turn; the flush-mounted
ones are almost impossible to see from out front.

I'm not sure how different your 929 fairing is from my CBR600 F4,
but I used off-the-shelf Lockhart Phillips flush-mount signals
purchased locally (Santa Clara Cycle). I did the same thing with
my previous bike, a Kawasaki EX500.

Unfortunately, there is no standardization with this sort of thing.
The way I got the signals to fit well on the EX500 was to whittle a
sort of gasket out of black closed-cell foam so that the signal's
base matched the curve of the fairing at the point it was mounted.
I got the foam from my local grocery store for $2.99 - a pair of
cheesy lightweight flip flops -- but I'm sure you could find
something similar that would work as well.

The signals on my CBR are mounted in a spot that's flatter, so I
didn't do anything except drill a new hole in the right spot and
bolt 'em up. It ain't concourse quality, but I really don't care.

By the way, these signals ARE the type that can be seen very well
when facing the bike (i.e., they are effective). They're not the
itty bitty kind with bulbs that basically face outwards.

    Hope this helps!

    Denise,

don't mean to disagree too much, but,

you are assuming Motorists give a darn about you on the bike. Seeing
turnsignals is asking a lot. I'd be happy if they just saw me on the
    bike.

with that in mind, anything flush and less "stickey outey" to break off
    is better.

  5. I hear ya, but...when I'm a motorist, I give a darn about
motorcyclists. I think _most_ motorists do give at least a darn. I
would feel really bad if something happened to the other guy because I
couldn't determine his intentions, because I didn't see his turn signal
flashing. Any flashing light draws more attention than any steady
light (hence the success of headlight modulators). That's why stock
turn signals are designed the way they are.
    There is that....
