I was hoping you would chip in, being the relative authority on these
    things.
Have you worked in Bangladesh? always looks like hell come to earth on TV.

I suggested the Yank should visit Orkney didn't I. IIRC the Black Horse had
Dark Island on for an OSM

    I'd not take any immodium.

I would however take some snacky food with me, and not work UK hours,
and make sure I was on a weekly anti-malarial tablets, not the daily
ones that further turned my stomach in knots before I even got the
squits, and subsequently never gave it chance to settle.

Plus I'd learn hindi for "Get out of my way you idiot, I've got the
fucking bum gravy and I need the shitter!"

I'm pretty certain I set off a few cameras last year in Yerp, but so
far, no letters in the mail. Having California plates is a "nice"
    thing. ;-)
Not that I would _intentionally_ do it, mind. I'd be happy to play the
rabbit for you guys, but I'm afraid you'd get bored with my pace.

I did get busted in France for crossing a solid white line, and had to
pay €90 cash on the spot. Wonder what would happen if I got stopped by
    some plod in the UK?

Y'know, it isn't a law that you will get sick. It _is_ possible to go
    there and stay healthy.

As for things to do & see, there are many things that are truly
amazing that you won't find elsewhere. The Taj Mahal and the Red Fort
at Agra. From the great plan to the tiny details, the story... it's
incredible. The fortress towns out west, Buddhist monasteries in the
Himalaya, music festivals down south, the list goes on & on. I can't
think of any country that has more to offer as a tourist destination
    than India.

I spent 8 days in Egypt and my innards were fine.

24 hours after getting home mind, that was another story.

No, and I _really_ don't want to know, thank you.
I don't have a budget. The trip will cost what it costs. I dunno, my
situation may be a bit unique. I'm a cheap bastard at heart. I don't
have expensive tastes. (Other than food. I like good food.) I'm
retired and collect a pension and social security. I can do pretty
much what I want. Trips to Europe certainly diminish my net worth, but
why not spend it before I die? I don't want regrets on my deathbed.

I would be very embarrassed if I was - I worked for the Scottish
    Tourist Board for ~30 years.

**** all. They don't have any powers to demand cash on the spot, so
unless you're doing something really dodgy (worthy of arrest) they'll
just issue a ticket (Fixed Penalty Notice) and let you on your way.
And as you say, they don't (yet) have powers to follow the ticket up
in the US. Sadly, they do for the rest of Europe, and it's only a
matter of time before they start following up as a matter of course...

It's also to do with the mood of the day. I mean, if I'm up early, the
sun is out and nobody is around and the magic is right, a tourist spot
may be just the right thing. OTOH, if I have to fight through traffic,
the last waitress was bitchy, and the weather is crap, it'll be "get
me the hell outta here!" Overall, I'd say I try to avoid tourist
places like the plague. I hate standing in queue.

Yeah, I saw that too, and Krusty's also referred to it, but so what?
    It's just allowing them to issue FPNs for a wider range of offences;
in no way does it give them powers to demand cash on the spot.

The BBC differ somewhat from Sky, who say it is fines on the spot (&
no points) that are being proposed.
