'Kin 'Ell you like to put it around...

I like many of the Indian folk I've met. I like the Sikhs too, utterly
barking m'fuckers. I'm quite certain it will be like the Philippines, many
wonderful places. Many places that look like hell on earth. Same problem, 5
    times too many people.

Live, like I said. They've been installed for fucking ages, (average speed
cams that read rear number plates) but the lacation designers fucked up and
made them useless. They've added another camera and now they're all switched
    on. That do you?
Maybe *he* won't, but if anyone from over here goes riding with him, *they*
will, or perhaps he's going to do all his riding on his own.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Having a Goodness and a Bellhaven pump does
not make you a good pub.

Based on the related experiences of you and others wrt 'Delhi Belly',
the term "shite hole" seems apposite.

It's very high on my list of places I'll never go. In fact I think
it's the only one, apart from maybe Pakistan.

Out of interest, why wouldn't you go?

Knowing what I do now, I'd go back in the right circumstances, but I'd
    be far better prepared.

I'm not sure about that. Stonehenge always seems to have more of a
    presence than Avebury.

I think both are worth seeing. Not sure I'd pay to see Stonehenge,
just park in the (free) car park and look at the stones through the
    fence.

Oh, Avebury's also free isn't it.

I prefer Silbury Hill to either of them.

<Checks xe.com> Bloody hell, I didn't realise the dollar was _that_
    low at the moment.

Then again, against Sterling it's nothing like as bad as against the
Euro or our[1] own beloved Swiss Franc.

There's nothing there I want to see/do enough to risk spending several
days of valuable holiday time being ill. I like to see reality when I
travel (hence the reason I don't do all inclusives), but the thought of
doing that in India's horrendous, especially when you've got a very
weak stomach for certain things like me. Just a whiff of an open sewer
    starts me gagging.

So if I did go, it would just be for a veggy beach holiday (keeping
well away from the 'real' India), & there's a hell of a lot of closer,
less risky places to do that.

It is. No access restrictions either. Oh, & did I mention the pub?

The best thing about Avebury is the people watching. It can be quite
fascinating sitting out the front of the pub on a nice Sunday afternoon
watching all the freaks hug the stones.

The worst thing about Avebury is the wasps, which have made it
impossible to eat outside for the last few years, & even just having a
beer is a challenge. Which is why I've switched my allegiance to the
pubs by the river in Lechlade.

Its not just the exchange rate, it is the actual cost of stuff. In the US
Jean and I lived very well while running 2 bikes on a budget on 100USD/
    day.

I'll be interested in what his initial daily budget is, and what it turns
    out to be :)

Eh? But it's only going to seem expensive based on the rate of
exchange, innit? I mean, if you were getting €1.20 per $, as was the
case ten years ago, Yrp would seem cheap for anyone from the US. At
less than €0.70 it's nearly twice as expensive, in relative terms.
    Indeed. If indeed he plans things in that way. I wouldn't, personally;
I'd just know the trip was going to cost 'a lot' and spend what I
    needed.
