A constant feature of all my BMWs has been the need to buy them a succession
of little presents. I love riding them, but the piecemeal complete rebuild
    thang is a little off-putting.

Why do you need to wait for December?

Have to agree. I mean, who ignores a fuggin' great red warning light
    smack bang in their view?

'Cause that's when the contract is due for renewal. It's on a kind of
lease thingy, see? I get to give it back to them for an agreed price or
use it as p/x on my next BMW at a "preferential" rate.

The former option is (unsurprisingly) currently the favourite and would
be worth about £7.5k if memory serves. About the right amount of money
for a tidy, recent-plate -12R and still get change for a trip abroad
with it to say, I dunno, Eastern Europe via Spain :)

No-one. If it's on, that is. I've since found out it wasn't.

My B-I-L - "it'd only been on for a few minutes, then the engine stopped"
    - he was fortunate that the Golf has a low oil pressure protection system
and shuts the engine down before it damages itself.

Nothing new there railway locos have had that since the fifties.
