because I want something slower, having something that is capabale of 160+
mph and 0-100 in the blink of an eye. I can restrain myself there ok, but
the handling is so awsome, corners are no longer challenging so aer easy to
go around too fast (well too fast for me). I'm worried that I'll have an
off, hurting myself or worse, it's too temptign having it there and it makes
my sports car feel slow. Finally, I fancy a mud plugger again and don't
have enough money to have both.

    interested?

You knew it's performance before you bought it so what's happened?

I was referring to the fact that he knew the capabilities of a
sportsbike and nothing he's said detracts from how a sportsbike should
    handle or perform.

He also states that " I'm worried that I'll have an off, hurting
myself" so I'm asking if he's had any specific close calls to make him
    think this way.

Another part that caused some confusion is "and it makes sports car
feel slow" which most bikes do. Henceforth the reinforcement of "You
knew its performance before you bought it". You see, the psychology
of his post is quite intriguing but somewhat understandable and this
is why I was asking "what happened". Of course I don't expect some
people here to understand the reason why I tried to get some more
explanation. I was looking for perhaps a moment of insight or
realisation that the bike or even riding wasn't for him.

I come across this with students of mine when teaching them how to
ride. At first they seem to really enjoy it and riding a bike means
more than anything to them. Despite the fact that we explain all the
dangers to them and they appear to ride competently a lot of them
bottle it. Some bottle it after passing their test by claiming that
    motorcycles are too dangerous. This happens a lot to racers as well;
very often something happens with their family that makes them give up
racing. I believe that this is a survival instinct kicking in and
something usually triggers it. It's this trigger I look for. Your
"Er.. I think he explained it all above.." succinct though it was
didn't really give me personally what I was looking for but thanks
anyway it did help another little project I'm looking at.

indeed I did know most of the capabilities, but like most bikes, you grow
into them and learn how to use them over time. I would consider myself a
quick rider at the best of times and I do use her potential. I've had other
sports bikes, however this one has totally blown me away. Before buying it
I had not test ridden it, only a normal 6r (strange dealer rule, you could
take it back if you weren't happy, but no test rides), this was a good 20%
    better than the 6r
nothing since buying this bike, I've had accidents before and they've not
put me off. I'm driving in the car about 200 miles per day at the moment
and every day I see someone else and occasionally me being affected by other
idiotic drivers. Driving with the utmost defence avoids pretty much
everything but it scares me that when on teh bike a lot more people "just
don't see you", I want to concentrate on my enjoyment rather than other
    drivers all the time.
The sports car came after the bike. When I've not ridden the bike for a
while the car feels quick, if I change over regularly the car feels too slow
and I plan more modifications and engine swaps - all of which cost lots of
    money.

One final reason, I don't spent enough time with Veronica, she doesn't
really like going out on the bike, so if I get something else then perhaps
    we can enjoy it together

sorry, not fitting into that above hole, just don't get enough time to enjoy
it, when I do it's normally commute to work which is too dangerous at the
moment, and what precious little time I get at the weekends I would like to
spend with my family.. I will get another bike, probably a trail/ off road
bike of some description, but for now I will be getting a 4x4 and do some
country adventures where my friends and family can fit in too.

    I love being an experiment.

Is this the "People who don't spend hours analysing newsgroup posts and post
    obtuse, blunt responses" project?

ps. I can see a bit of myself in what you've said there - the "must ride
bike at all costs" turning into being more thoughtful - not quite "I'm not
going to ride" but certainly much more thoughtful. I'm getting old.

This doesn't stop me wanting a big bike mind you :)

    Har har.

One man's blink is another man's squint.

    Or something.

BTW, check the stats - 600's get to 60 (100km/h ;) ) just as fast (in some
cases faster) then the litre bikes.

It's after that it all goes downhill for the 2 pint brigade.

Do they!? I've never seen such a set of figures. My only conclusion
would be that the litre bike jockey would have to be incompetent.

And actually, a bit of thought, it does make some sense.
Easier to get the power down etc etc.

Note as i said this is up to 60. After that, forget about it obviously.

And it's unlikely you would. I mean, who's interested in 0-60 figures
anyway? They're pretty meaningless and incredibly difficult to
accurately measure once you get below say, 5 seconds or so.
Oh I dunno - ISTR my XT500 had better 0-60 times than some of the
behemoths that masqueraded as sprots bikes back in them thar days...
