I imagine I'd have a quite unique garage at the end of it though.

  4. A cautious use of explosives to detonate very near to them as they pry
    open your garage door.
If desired it shouldn't hurt them apart from the embarrassment of
    totally voiding their bowels.
Not that, that was intended, but only as a warning noise to draw your
    attention to the intruders.

A neighbour near my old place had a lot of attempts on his farm quad
bike. He used a fox scarer. A blank 12 gauge cartridge firing down wards
onto a flat plate set off by a trip wire connected to the bike. Only he
moded it with a cone of steel under the cartridge and used dust shot.
Mounted it at about shin height. It only went of once, after that and he
    reckoned the word was spread.

Damn! Bad news, but at least they didn't get the bike.

I can't offer any recommendations on what security to add to your garage
since I don't have one. But I would suggest that whatever you decide,
you do it fairly quickly as I understand theives do sometimes return to
the scene of the intended crime for another go.

Oh and if you want to borrow a big black snarling dog at any time, just
    let me know ;-)

  6. Heh. A foaf put a dummy camera and flashgun inside his garage. It went
off and scared away two local thieving scrotes.

Unfortunately, they came back later in the evening and set fire to the
garage in order to destroy the camera.

    Thought you'd retired?

I blame that insurance survey thing you have for implying I live in a 'nice'
    area.
A man [1] is going to improve the internal situation tomorrow.
Another man [2] is going to improve the external situation on Monday.

    [1] me.
    [2] not me.
