A *what* group...? Ohfuckmenogodpleaseno. A bunch of motorway "guardian
angels" vigilantes is the LAST thing we need...

Just try, for one moment, to imagine the kind of holier than thou numpty
    that's likely to volunteer... <shudder>

Why does Simon Dean's name pop to mind?

  3. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, MrBitsy
Explicitly allow passing either side. Problem solved.

Just what the world needs - more self-appointed "citizen policemen".

As with politicians, the very fact that you want to do the job [1]
should disqualify you from ever doing so.

[1] Never mind the "with relish". That's a real giveaway.

NOT a bunch of self-important vigilantes...
And cameras couldn't do that exact same job... why?

It's _pointless_ writing to 'em and saying "You were seen..." - the value
is ONLY in stopping 'em there and then and showing 'em the in-car video
of what they were doing wrong and discussing with 'em why it's wrong.

I don't agree. Information sent and a requirement for a couple of hours
refresher would be far more benificial.

I am amused you find the idea of doing something about lane discipline, to
    be a waste of time.
Oh, we force people to do it?
Yes, it gives away my relish to do something positive for safety and the
    flow of traffic.

Speaking as someone who uses the M42 stretch every day, I love it.

I've got my own private lane to drive in because no other fucker uses
    it.

Had they been built a sensible size originally or upgraded to a more suitable
size this wouldn't be necessary but the 'greens' wouldn't let that happen would
    they ?

Doesn't work like that. If the hard shoulder is open, the cameras are
set on 50mph for all lanes. So everyone is forced to do 50 across the
    board.

Widening roads doesn't make traffic flow faster.

I am of the view that if some drivers can be convinced, it is a good thing.
One c onvinced driver will convince others. Too often we bury our heads in
the sand in this country because 'it won't do any good'.

If it was in the HC to pass in any lane, do you think drivers would still
move to the left? I feel slow drivers would start to use lane 3/4 also.

    *I* do.

But it's amazing how many won't.

Like the idiots round here that refuse to drive in the bus lanes and
cycle lanes outside of their (clearly posted) hours of operation.

I wish!!!! As the 4-lane stretches of the M25 prove, the MLOC-ers don't move
at all, so they occupy lane 3 of 4, with absolutely nothing in the TWO lanes
to their left (apart from me basting past in L1). And this goes for lenthy
    stretches of 4-lanes, e.g. between J7 and J10, about 16 miles of
    uninterrupted 4 lanes.
