I'm fitting a taller set of handle bars to the virago 535, and i'll
obviousely need some longer cables and a brake line.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get long cables from? tried local bike
shops, but they can only get stock parts, even a stainless brake line would
be stock length only!!! and i thought they were made to order, so wouldent
be a problem to add 5 inches to the stock length of pipe before crimping the
    banjo's on.

Not too bothered about doing mail order, but i live near nottingham, only 2
cables (throttle and clutch) and a single brake line are needed,
i did get a price once for about £30 per cable to be made up, but that
seemed a bit steep to me,

I'm almost tempted to try and find the individual parts and do them my
self... i'd re-use the bits where the outer cable terminates.. like at the
clutch end with the adjuster on it, just bung on longer outers, and longer
inners, and solder some new nipples on.

But where do i get them from?? throttle prolly halfrauds as in a push bikes
brake cable, but the clutch cable is a little thicker than that, and has
    bigger nipples <fnaar fnaaar etc>

  2. If the local bike dealers are no use, try a place that repairs
lawnmowers for your throttle cable. Your clutch cable might be a bit too
heavy for them, but you might strike lucky.

  5. In uk.rec.motorcycles, CampinGazz amazed us all with this pearl of
    wisdom:
When I put Goodgridge hoses on the Bandit, they were miles too long.
Maybe they'll fit what you need to do with the Virago.

This guy on eBay does lines to your specs... I enquired about this not too
long ago. Also does clutch cables for an extra 20 quid IIRC..

    Kewl,

Cables on my bike are just a single throttle and a clutch cable, i.e. it
dosent have the push/pull throttle that some virago's had, not sure if your
    is like that,

But my throttle cable is 33 and a half inches for the outer, plus 5 inches
    extra for the inner,
The outer i measured for the actual black plastic wrapped bit, not including
the gentle 90 degree bend end fitting that goes into the twist grip area on
    the rhs switches.

Clutch cable is 40 and a half inches long outer, plus 5 inches extra for
inner.that's going to the end of the adjuster on the bottom of the clutch
    cable.

I need to go around 6 inches longer than my stock cables, fitting bars with
an 8 inch rise, standards were about 3 inches rise i believe, plus new bars
    are wider than stock.

I find that a similar approach bit instead of soldering the "nipple" on I
drill a hole 3.3MM dia at right angles to the first hole tap it with a M4
tap and use this to secure the cable in works best. this way there is no
bothersome soldering and you just need to loosen the bolt and slide it up
the cable if you ever go back to shorter bars.
Also heaven forbid if the nipple does slip off you can carry a spare to
    replace it relatively easily.

The brake hose goodridge do make custom length as I have just bought one
...try emailing or ringing to enquire you might be able to go direct to
goodridgr and cut out the middle man I.e. the bike shop. as for the clutch
cable I cant offer any suggestions I have only ever shortened them not
extended ... a engineering supplier should have cables like that but I cant
guarantee ..or you could do as suggested elsewhere and try to measure the
lengths of other peoples clutch cables ...even if you cant find one the
right length get one longer and shorten it.
