Exporting vehicles

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Carmichael, Dec 17, 2005.

  1. I've been told that the DVLA has stopped issuing export certificates
now. Anybody here know if this is true? Does the latest logbook (V5 for
the young'uns) no longer have the "permanently exported" box?

Paul Carmichael emerged from their own little world to say
    New style V5C

Section 11 (purple) Notification of permanent export:

paraphrasing: "return this section to DVLA. Keep sections 1-8 of the
document to present to the licensing authority of the country of export.
This section will not produce an export cert."

That's exactly what I did when I exported the cage to New Zealand. In
effect the new V5 is your export certificate.

  4. A bloke here wants to re-matriculate (re-register) his car in Spain.
He's been told that with the new style V5 he has to give the vice-consul
over 100 euros for a signature before he can even get the thing tested.

When I imported my bike (with export cert), I just took it to the ITV
    (MoT) station with the cert.

Paul Carmichael emerged from their own little world to say
    from http://www.dvla.gov.uk/newrules/hrc_new.htm
    "WHY CHANGE?
The new registration certificate has been developed to comply with European
Directive 1999/37/EC, agreed by all Member States, which provides for the
introduction of a common format for registration certificates. This will
help with the identification of vehicles in international traffic and be
used for re-registration throughout the European Union. The new style
certificate also has added security features to assist law enforcement."

Perhaps your local bureaucrats need to be enlightened about the EDs their
political masters have ascribed to? Alternatively, it may just be another
form if indirect taxation Gordon and his EU counterpaerts have invented.
