Expert witness .....

Attended the inquest into my brothers accident today.

Police cannot say what speed he was doing but say somewhere between 30 and
55mph so all that measuring and calculating cannot get it closer :S .. .the
guy he overtook prior to the incident said he was doing 40mph before he went
around the corner into the 30 zone.

I was a bit surprised at the plod expert witness who said the front tyre
pressure was 37 psi and over BMW standard of 32. If he'd had looked he'd
have seen there was a 110/80ZR18 Avon ST45 Azaro on there and the correct
pressure for that (being radial) is 37psi. The rear tyre for some reason
escaped them? It was also an Azaro a 140/80ZR17 AV46. Just thought the north
Wales senior investigator and police driver/motorcyclist would've noticed
    the type of tyre fitted.

No mention was made of ABS on the bike and its possible effect on braking
    etc.

Taxi driver refutes the police positioning of the events and has changed her
impact spot a few times. She also repeatedly said in her statements "he
wasn't there" even when the police pointed out he must've been cos she hit
    him.

She admitted not checking when she turned right on the left right staggered
junction. General consensus is she pulled out he had to avoid her, she
    turned right <bang>.

A bit distressing to hear how hard he hit the phone box and of course the
medical details of his injuries, basically massive upper chest injuries
resulting in massive haemorrhage into the lungs.

Taxi driver removed his crash helmet despite being told not to by others on
the scene then told police she hadn't ?

As expected the verdict is accidental death

That cannot be easy Steve. Condolences.
What verdicts were open to the Court, given the circumstances?

It's a tough one, but most accidents are, well, accidental. Even if she
    is a ****.

Out of curiosity, did plod do a similar check on tyres etc on the taxi ?

The thing I realised after my mother's death is that some factual errors
will inevitably creep into the official version, but unless they make a
substantive difference to the verdict, there's really no point in pursuing
and correcting them. Much better to move on.

Not a nice thing to have to go through at all.

At least it's done with now, let it go.

as others have said, the Taxi driver probably was "at fault", but she
certainly didn't /intend/ to kill your brother, so "accidental" is the
correct verdict. It's a bit of a ****, though, but at least you still
have a lovely R45 to take your mind off it.

  16. Cuntish, that. What a fucking arsehole of a plod that he made a note of
that, yet totally failed to notice the proper tyre pressures for the
    tyres in use.

I think it *is* worth pursuing mistakes like the tyres, because it might
make the **** sharpen his act up for when it will make a substantive
difference to an outcome in some other case.
