Exhausts - controversial...possibly.

With that Vine programme effectively doing us one in the eye.. a question.

Race exhausts are illegal, but the penalty for fitting them is spurious -
    £60 fine max isn't it?

IF that was raised to, lets say, a 30 day ban and a £5000 MINIMUM fine -
would the 'problem' not disappear over night?

Obviously this applied to all vehicles, including TVR's.

Like with most things, if the penalty for failure to comply is severe
enough, you will achieve the 'desired' effect as the risk just becomes
    too great.

Where's the profit in making the fine so high that people won't fit
    'race' exhausts?

The same place the chances of it being applied fairly are.

Because TVR don't make race exhausts maybe?

Stock TVR's are very loud, but very legal. All down to the number of
cars they make and which regulations they are bound by because of this
(according to the man in the showroom)

I believe there's a 'Sports' system available for some models - a friend
had one on his Cerbera [1]

    Nice. anything dropped off/broken yet?

I don't think that illegal exhausts are a "problem" so I don't see the
point in legislating them out of existence.
