Exhausts and insurance

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Darren Robinson, Apr 25, 2004.

  1. I'm on the verge of fitting a shiny new Quill T3 end can to the
Bandit. However, I neglected to ask Auntie Carole if they want more
of my money first. Is this likely?

Last time I had this discussion with Auntie Carol, he [1] stated that
they would only cover me if it was road legal.

I've added 1/3 to the capacity of my engine, upped the compression,
fitted race cams, carb and ignition and that's all OK, but illegal
exhausts were just too high a risk.

So I told them the pipes were road legal and they said that was OK then.

    [1] How appropriate for UKRM

*very* grey area. I think it tends to depend on the insurer, you have
to inform them of anything that is on the vehicle that wasn't there when
it was officially brought into the country [1] [2] otherwise you may not
    be covered.

[1] Even stickers in the window, believe it or not. A friends
insurance company tried to wiggle out of paying out for the car being
stolen and recovered due to the fact it had stickers in the rear window.

[2] Many years ago (when I were a young lass) one of the insurance co's
wanted me to inform them of any changes at all, whether it was deemed to
be 'performance enhancing' or not. Despite the fact I only had a shitty
Motad on the GPX, they wanted more money. Motad? Performance
    enhancing?

Ring them and ask them. If they can't find it on their system tell them
it's a pattern replacement because the old one was rotten. Ask them to
note down that they've been informed. Job done.

Believe it or not, Honda cover didn't recognise the term 'power
commander'. Maybe next time I'll try 'nitrous'. Just for a laugh.

  5. H and R made a "ffffffffff" noise of sucking air over teeth when I asked
then to make a note of the aftermarket exhaust system and seat unit.

Then was very surprised (but not as much as I) when it didn't load the
    premium one penny.

    So you might be lucky...
