Exhaust Pipe

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Whinging Courier, Apr 22, 2005.

  1. Anyone know where I can get it? Just the pipe, not any silencer bits or
    owt.

I had a big hole in my collector (now fixed with chemical metal - thanks
UniBond) but as I was looking at it I considered taking the cans off and
replacing what comes out of the collector with a 18"-2ft piece of shaped
    pipe (2 needed).

There's a chopper round here that sounds fucking horrendous and I saw a
Bonneville going up the road at lunchtime that sounded just as
    devastating.

I want that noise and the best part is I can keep the cans for the MOT.

Any ideas? Halfords came blank but then I've not tried anyone else.

I ran my Bandit for a very little bit without the end can, just a bit of
pipe, and it was louder than a very loud thing indeed. Your 1000cc
engine would be louder than that.

Why not just put little filters on the cabs to screw your mixture up
    instead?

Rather than using pipe, why not get end caps, some sort of riveting kit and
some sheet metal and make your own, unsilenced, shapes that could be in
keeping with the rest of the shithe^^^^^bike..? You know - something that
looks like the elephant man's head that bolts onto the collector and has a
normal exhaust outlet. That kind of thing

It's an experimental thing. If I like it and the neighbours don't
    complain I'll keep them on.

Too thick and heavy. I need to be able to bend them slightly.

    <Thinks>

I *think* I can lay my hands on some aluminium antenna pole.

    <Thinks again>

Maybe I'll try running it without any pipes at all (apart from the
headers and collector), then a)I'll see what the DB rateage is like and
    b) I'll be able to see if performance is compromised.

    Cheers!

I had my 1200 running with no end can at one point.

    It was fucking obscene.

If I do fit a freeer-breathing can to the 7R, it'll be road legal
but able to push more gas at the top end. The appeal of something
quite so loud seems to have passed. Next thing you know, I'll be
    getting a mortgage!

    ****, that me laugh!

My cans are empty, they're only there for what seems like show. If
putting a bit of pipe on doesn't make them significantly louder I'd
rather the pipe than cans because I believe the aesthetic appeal would
    be greater.

Exactly what I *almost* bought for the bandit, and exactle what I'll
    probably buy for the 7R.

Not least because I was highly impressed with the pre-sales contact
    I had with JB Racing.

****'s sake, mark. Are you seriously putting that two-wheeled
monstrosity and "aesthetic appeal" in the same sentence?

The build quality of the can is second to none with a nicely made
hanging strap too. It sounds quiet at low revs but starts to growl as
you crack on without getting obnoxiously loud. I'd definitely consider
buying another because I wanted exactly the same as you in a
replacement can, more power without the noise.

I've had two Microns and two Scorpions before, but the Quill beats all
    of them hands down.

Had one since I was 19, should have bought a bike and a loud can
    instead.

4 inch cast iron drainpipe ends then. That would be just the job dome
in matt black with the makers mark highlighted in a little gold leaf.

I will update it this weekend, but not now... I'm somewhat boozed up
I'd love that money (it's lots innit), but without having to move...

Summary: Money ain't everything, as I'm sure you realise.

Yes, of course. I believe it has been tastefully done. I have to go out
in a bit so I might try whipping the pipes off to go down the market.
Should impress a few tourists more than usual... ;o)
