    A trailer for wine?

Have a lovely time. I've been to some of the places on the Italian leg
(how can you resist a name like Poggibonsi?) and had a great time...
    didn't want to come home.

The coast road between Viareggio and somewhere near Genova was the
scene of a high speed blast for myself, Champ and Alex Ferrier a few
years ago and it was an absolute riot. Make sure your trip doesn't end
as ours did with someone lobbing their bike because they were curious
as to how far they could step the back wheel out without crashing.

Rural petrol stations are rarely manned, IME. You simply put a 10 euro note
into the pump and dispense your fuel.
I'll most likely be popping in next month, on day trips from my Austrian &
    Swiss bases.

    pas de problem

I used a UK card in an automated pump at a Total station on the recent TOG
Tour. The notes with my tour pack from MCi states that automated pumps at
Auchan & Leclerc supermarkets now accept UK cards.

My experience of this pre-dates the euro.

The trip is effectively a half board package holiday.

I'm staying in the Parkhotel du Sauvage[1] in Meiringen for 3 nights,
arriving Thurs 19 June[2]. Looking at the itinery, the organisers have not
made any plans for Friday 20th. They suggest taking the train up the
Jungfrau or visit Trummelbach Falls and/or Schiltorn.

If you are in Erzburg on 20th then I could come along to check your pad out
    for future trips :)

The organisers have booked a stopover in Metz on the way back. They suggest
a 290 mile scenic route from Meiringen to Metz. Crossing into Germany at
Waldshut and riding up through the Black Forest. Then crossing into France
at Breisach and riding up to Metz via St Die & Luneville. This will be on
Sun 22 June. Does this route go near your Alsace mansion?

    [1] www.sauvage.ch
[2] riding over from Kaunertal in Austria via St Moritz, Julier pass,
Flims, Andermatt and the Susten passe.

Well you'd be welcome of course, but a) our pad's in Engelberg and b)
I think we're going to a party near home that weekend, so probably
not. Feel free to text me when you're over and I'll let you know if
    we're around. Froggy mobile, 0674 875657.
Not really. I mean, yes, for "within a couple of hours drive" values
of near, but we're much further South. But it sounds like a cracking
    route. Enjoy!

    I've noted your mobile no.

No idea why I typed Erzburg. I was looking at the map, tracing the routes
    suggested.

We're back (or at least I am---herself is probably trying to explain
away her tyres). Fine trip, currently down a right hand side mirror
where the Pan fell over in an Alpine car park, and the gear shift is a
bit rough where it's fouled by the fairing that was stoved in by an
    Italian driver.

Pick up your answer phone messages then! I was getting worried.
I was more worried about the back firing from the now detached exhaust
    - bit difficult to nonchalantly pass a police car when the unburnt
fuel from where you've cracked the throttle shut is blowing out the
    back.

How I didn't get pulled I have no idea. Oh and I had about 4 more 'one
last time off the clocks' runs.
    It was that.
Plus the bit of top box that flew past me.

Sounds like the paraffin has had some effect on the Pan, then? ;-)

Let's see: fallen on ice at a German petrol station en route to the
Elefant; fallen on snow at the Elefant; filled with paraffin on a TOG
    tour; fell over (hard) in a car park at the bottom of an Alpine pass;
stoved in (on the other side) by an Italian car ...

.... and it pulled 130 with luggage on an autobahn and rolled over
    80000 miles on the trip.

    Bloody good bike.

Gravel? I assume you didn't break yourself, while you were at it?
    Blind driver, or malicious?
    You'd hope so...
    50p, mister? ;-)

It was parked up and I heard a crash as I turned my back. I think my
perception of cambers had been affected by the hairpins and I'd put
it on ground sloping the wrong way for the sidestand.
    Blind rider, blind driver.
I'd had a discussion with Packer about what a Pan *can* do and thought
I should do a proper test. With luggage, if you get your head behind
the windscreen and are prepared to wait for the engine to do its
thing, you can get it up to 130 and have a few revs left before the
    redline.
I speet on your so-called joke.
