Actor Ewan McGregor is auctioning off one of his best-loved
motorbikes to raise money for needy children [Auction page:
    http://easyurl.net/McGregorMotorbike ]

The star, from Crieff, will say goodbye to the Moto Guzzi
California Vintage bike to bring in funds for the charity
Unicef, which he is an ambassador for...

McGregor said: "I'm donating my Moto Guzzi California
motorcycle. It was the first and original white one, the
only one of its kind, and one of my favourite bikes.

"I collected this bike from the Moto Guzzi factory in Italy
and rode it back to London and I've loved riding it ever
    since.

"Whoever wins this bike will not be disappointed."...

Yet it's only got 900 miles on it.

    Unlikely. They are vetting bidders.

Mandello (Italy) - London is 781 miles. You can probably do a little less if
you cross the lake in Varenna, to Menaggio and then enter Switzerland near
Lugano. I used to live very close to the factory, my two uncles used to work
there. Maybe he left it in his garage after that ride...

Plus a few miles from London to Crieff perhaps.

I never got to visit the Guzzi factory in 94. We only had a week and
Arcore was more important to me. We went past the Mandello works after
paying homage to Guiseppe Gelera doing the Brunate hill climb road on
the Nordwest, but it was closed.

Exactly, fucking bullshitters. Mind you, these cunts probably get free bikes
    every other week.

Was this the bike he binned just before Long Way Down?

  10. We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember DC <>
    saying something like:

I see this has been changed...

"McGregor said: "It was the first and original white one, the
only one of its kind, and one of my favourite bikes.""

    .... to

"It?s the first of its kind in this colour and one of my favourite
    bikes."

Odd that. Must be unique right enough, along with all the thousands of
    other white ones.
I suppose the writer isn't actually MadGregor, but a non-biking
scribbler and doesn't actually know what McG really meant - simply that
he always wanted a white one, just like the cops' ones, same as they
first came out, and wasn't actually claiming uniqueness for this
    particular bike.

Which one? They're advertisig two different bikes according to the
pictures: in one photo, one appears to be based on a Griso.

It is, it's a 1200 8v. I'd guess that these pictures are from a set taken
when he went to pick the thing up, and they let him sit on all sorts. I
suppose we should be grateful they didn't pick one of him perched on a
    Nevada.

I'm just back from Florence. Two days of pouring rain, really crap weather.
When are you going there? There are a couple of places I could recommend
    for eating out.
