Evolution of the species or one for Lozzo's book?

I dragged the even-shite-er-old-BMW out of the garage for a good clean
    up yesterday.

Due to the depth of the crud encrusted on it's sporting lines, I started
with a bit of light pressure washing before moving on to the more
    traditional bucket and cloth.

Once it was gleaming and I'd popped the batter charger on for a few
minutes I turned on the ignition to fire up the beast but the battery
was past saving and there was no way it would start the bike.

What did happen however was that as soon as the ignition was turned on,
the rev counter needle swept round to 6,000 RPM and stayed there until
    the ignition was turned off.

I seem to recall that this is the sort of thing some of these modern
sportsbikes do when you turn on the ignition.

So has my 23 year old R65 evolved into a modern sportsbike while it was
sat in the garage, or was I actually less careful with the pressure
washer than I thought I was?

Gyp was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
    My guess it's the latter...
