Had to pass on current acquired wisdom re parking in our fine city.

Phoned local council when a warder (council type, not fully feral) told me
that I couldn't park smart and lovely motorcycle in on street pay and
display even though I had bought a ticket.

Short exchange followed (got away w/o ticket due to charm and hansome looks
I expect, or could just be that I was about to leave anyway) and put me on
    vengeance path.

Contacted council offices to get clarification of permitted parking for
    bikes. Told following -
    can't use pay and display
can use bike park (_big_ surprise)
can park in permit only zones (_bigger_ surprise)
can use any disabled zones (I do have a slightly iffy back but this seems
    too wierd to me)

Madame, independent biking spirit that she is, made same call next day.
    Her replies -
can use pay and display spaces free for two hours if on-road
can't park in off street pay and display due to 'security issues'
(thermoneuclear devices disguised as panniers I expect)
definitely can't park anywhere else that is zoned, even in your own zone

So, if you visit Norwich you can park anywhere if you ask the right person
it seems. Or nowhere. At least we never need to pay a parking ticket again
    if we keep references.

What is it like in the big world out there?

Just park it on the pavement FFS. You *have* cloned the number plate of a
    local Councillor already haven't you?

Not an uncommon problem, try finding a place to legally and safely park a
    motorcycle in Hitchin, (Herts).
I had the just same conversation with a traffic warden about two years ago,
still no where to park !

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Speedgazebo
Between Clinton's Cards and the new M&S food place, at the bottom of
Portmill Lane. Or under the covered area (also in Portmill Lane) near
St. Mary's. Or in the Sainsbury's car park in the bit with the large
    "Motorcycle Parking" sign.

All have posts to lock the bike to, and all are handy for the town
centre. And they're free. One's even covered.

Sorry, what was the problem again?
