It looks like you could glue the mounts back on to hold them in place.
Then cut out some bits of fibreglass tissue, poke a hole in them for
the bolts, slide them over & stipple them in place with resin/araldite.
    'Swot I'd try anyway.

If you can be arsed, you could remove the white bit & tissue it on the
    inside too.

  2. The irony is that that ER5 I saw at KP, when I tried to phone you, had
perfect clocks, and the whole bike was going for £450.

You could have robbed the clocks from it, swapped over any other bits
you fancied, and then dismantled the rest of the bike and made more
selling it piece by piece than you spent on buying it in the first
    place.

I still think this would be a sensible move, actually. I know it's the
same advice as I've given a dozen times before, but that is because it
    works.

Is that what he meant? I wasn't sure what the **** he was on about.

I couldn't ride for shit when I started and still can't. Everyone has
to learn how to ride but riding fast needs natural talent. Clear
    enough?

So natural talent wouldn't have helped? I can think of a couple of
people who post here who I would say have a lot more natural talent
than they deserve and when you watch them ride you can see it from a
mile off. There's fast and then there's the next step up.

Crashing and learning from it is all I've ever done and right now I
wish I hadn't crashed as often. As soon as winter arrives all those
past knocks start to ache and I try to remember which crash I can
    blame them on.

It depends on your interpretation of riding fast. It might be a bit
    different to mine.

That's not (or wasn't meant to be) patronising. I'm talking about the
difference between riders who are pretty quick on public roads where
skill takes a backstage to nerve and riders on a track who make the
    lesser being look crap.

MCN has a bit on the back page about a 15 year old lad called Bradley
Smith who's been given a Repsol ride in this years 125 GP series. He's
got to have a much higher level of natural talent than the majority to
be given that chance to go further.

I do keep a look out on ebay for such things, but most written off
'non-runner' ER-5's tend to have little left of the front and need a
    trailer.

These clocks actually work. I am trying to keep them that way for as
long as possible. Me taking them apart and putting them together is
    probably not a good idea.

  12. This one was a runner and quite serviceable. You don't want a pranged
job - you want the cheapest running ER you can find, with the bits you
want intact. Plenty of people - myself included - will collect it for
    you if need be.

    On Sun, 5 Feb 2006 17:29:22 +0000,
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind the next time I find one on ebay
    that's out in the sticks.

I was just having a look for one just now and came across this poor
thing. The bike and clocks are utterly fucked, so it's not something
I'm going to consider bidding on, but do you know where one gets those
lovely wind guard things (the name of which escapes me) as displayed
    in:

    Handlebar shrouds.

    Never seen anything like those!

You see them on dirt bikes a lot, and couriers used to cut old
half-gallon lemonade cartins in half, but those items - nah, new to me.

  15. I was talking to a girl about this last night. Why is it that queers are
more like girls than girls are? I've known loads of folks of that
pursuasion (still do - this place is crawling with 9 bob notes) and
every one to a man is more feminine than most girls I've known
(generally speaking, considerably less attractive mind).

Saves your knuckles getting rapped by door mirrors when filtering, I
once had the front brake lever of my last ZZR1100 twanged by a mirror
and the resulting front wheel lock up was scary. Also if your bike goes
down the chances of riding away with the brake and clutch levers still
intact are increased. I've seen a few bikes on their sides in parking
bays as well, so anything that can reduce damage is good in my book.

    Nope. NAFAICT.
Yeah, there's a place near Tooting/Colliers Wood that does stuff like
that. Can't remember the bastard name though, something like Revs or Max
    motorcycles, something like that anyway.
Shouldn't think so, I've had bikes MOTd and passed without a working
    speedo.
    Don't think it's a requirement but ICBW.
    That's a fail.
    Set fire to it.

It's good that I've got a year and two days before it has to fail an
