    Colin Irvine scribbled:
I'm lost. I dunno who dug what, when, and why.

Can I just hire a JCB and flatten the hole area?

  4. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Wicked Uncle Nigel amazed us all with this pearl
    of wisdom:
They've got Television-X and Red Hot but these have got a long way to go
before you can TIUTATV with those.

  6. Thank you. It's all very confusing to someone who's never owned a UKTV.

That's just for pikey folk wi'out satellite dishes though, innit?
Freeview means it can be picked up in plain by any digital decoder
with a dish pointing the right way.

No, you need a DTT [1] STB which is colloquially also known as a
Freeview box because TUTV was launched later than Freeview which in
turn took over the promotion of the DTT platform from the failed, ITV
backed, OnDigital subscription service. The old OnDigital boxes still
work with Freeview & TUTV etc.

[1] DTT is the platform. Freeview [2] & TUTV are services runnning on
    the DTT platform.

[2] Freeview is an organisation joint-owned by the BBC, Sky and Crown
who promote [3] the DTT platform. Each broadcaster (BBC, ITV etc)
owns or rents channel space on the DTT platform to show their
    channels.

[3] Except they have no remit to promote TUTV or any other pay service
on the DTT platform which was a bone of contention for TUTV who seem
unwilling to pay to market themselves properly which is one reason [4]
why they have such a low customer base.

[4] The other reason is the crap selection of channels they offer.
Eurosport is one channel for which I would be willing to pay [5] if
    only it wasn't restricted hours.

[5] Once I get another job.

  14. A Swiss-German student in Zürich used to ask me why it was called
"vacuum cleaner" -- how can you clean a vacuum? The German Staubsauger
is a little more logical -- "dust sucker".

Well if you wait about a year you can buy a shiny new Nokia phone with
integrated Freeview receiver. Until then a TV or monitor would seem to
    be a prerequisite.
