European Breakdown Cover.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by danny_deever2000, Jul 14, 2005.

  1. Looking at the terms of my breakdown cover it seems I have a two week
cooling off period that allows me to cancel and get a refund provided I
have not made a claim or used the service.

"During the fourteen days 'cooling off' period after initial
purchase, you may cancel your policy and your premium will be refunded
in full providing you have not made a claim or used the service. "

What's the accepted definition of 'used the service'? Is the policy
being in force using the service?

Otherwise what's to stop me buying the cover then taking advantage of
    my cooling off period afterwards.

I'm not gonna ask the firm 'cos their sales droid know **** all.

  3. A wild guess... calling them to bail you out of trouble, perhaps.
Nothing. Provided you haven't used the service.

He didn't say he'd done it - he was asking whether it was possible. I think
it's a perfectly valid question actually.

Can't see why it would put up the premiums for the rest of us either. Not
like the admin is gonna be a huge amount and there is no other cost AFAICS

  7. How so? If he actually uses the service in the first fortnight, he'll
have paid his dues and not get a refund, so won't affect you in any way.

The company offering the cover is simply playing a numbers game, just
like every ins co. They know damn fine that some'll do what he's doing
    but the majority won't.

It's just like taking a suit back to the shop - as long as it's not
covered in winestains and vomit, it's ok.

Er - you started the name calling *and* you were wrong in your assertion -
so I, personally, think he was valid in returning the vitriol... if not, why
    not?

  13. I think he was indicating he was trolling. Which was always a
    possibility.

    If not....

    Uh huh.

The old "I was wrong, but I'll say it was a troll " approach.

I'd say Ethics as morals tend to be imposed rather than ethics which
are personal. Morals can certainly have an effect but I think
ultimately it boils down to ethics.

<goes to email to start a situational ethics argument with a fiend>[1]

[1] the typo amused me so I let it live.
