Jenny's (wife)'s sister lives in Switzerland on Lake Geneva - about 40
    k from Geneva itself.
We will be visiting about Sept-Oct this year. I would like to hire a
bike and tour al least some of the Alps during that time. I am not up
to Moike and Marty's standard of devil-may-care adventure in foreign
climes, so my preference would be some kind of guided group your. I
know, JFGI, and I have done just that, and discovered costs are very
    high.
Does anyone know from first hand experience the bet way to do this?
    Thanks

Nev, that is a great site and has opened my horizons immensely. TYVM,
and I will study it closely.
    Again, thank you.

    Seconded.

I've got one of GlobeBusters' support drivers staying with me for the
next three weeks while waiting for the tour group to arrive from the US
leg. They work with Edelweiss on some of their tours. Here's the details
of the current one he is on:

Very nice if you have a spare $100K and eight months!

Agree, nice. Unfortunately I have neither the cash nor the time.
Why do they go from Bogota to Panama by aeroplane?

Well thanks - that makes sense when the difficulties in constructing
the canal are considered. I'm just surprised that in this "can do"
age, there is still this overland gap. KLR650 powered boat? Those
things can do lots of stuff, that's for sure.

'Cos it's quicker than the two alternatives:

    1) Jungle + Malaria
    2) Boat

Although I'm told that the boat trip can be "interesting".

to report back :) (just transferred the final amount lastnight. Must
    now book plane tickets)

    Awesome.

Have you considered getting an International Permit showing your motorcycle
    endorsement?

Not "needed" per se, but it smooths out any language barriers you might
    encounter.

They are "needed" nowadays, because the Vic licence used to show "BIKE"
as the motorcycle endorsement but like I think most Australian states
now, they only show "R" as the bike endorsement, which means nothing to
most constabulary regardless of which language they speak. Had to try
to explain how an "R" means a motorcycle licence to an Arkansas State
Trooper last year and the International Permit helped a lot! Most tour
operators and bike hirers will also want this proof before they let you
    loose on their bikes.

  14. It works, well I think it does. When I lived in Germany I got the
International Permit with motorcycle. I bought a BMW and German
insurance and all they wanted to see was my Texas drivers license.

Here it is in Stuttgart. It's a small pic but I don't know where the
    full size image is hiding.

    Hi Bob.

Nice bike. I think that's the same colour as my BMW.

BTW, if I remember rightly, there is a downloadable motorcycle, possibly
    a Harley, for FS.

I have recollections of trying to "ride" it about Athens Airport.

It was fine in the airport, but I couldn't make it down to Nea Makri
    beach. :-(

You're lucky you speak English.... well wait.. maybe not such an

Yeah, mine shows "M"... like that's going to mean anything to a
    European cop.

But thank [insert diety of choice] they've worked out reciprocal
agreements, have you seen the flaming hoops they make you jump through
to get a motorcycle licence in France?

As you may be aware the us central states copped a pasting this week , I
know it was the states because the tv presenter said so , some of them
though spoke something akin to nasal Swahili as I certainly did
    recognise anything closely resembling English

    My
WA licence says R MR on the front. The back says
    CLASS
    R Motor Cycle
MR Motor vehicle (if over 8t gvm, 2 axles only)

I thought that was the standard layout.
    Makes sense to me.

Mine does too. Meaning if you are giving it to someone who isn't
familiar with that, saying "the things I'm licenced for are on the
    back" would be sensible.
