I'm not well up on laptops, any idea what this problem is, anyone?

I'm emailing the message that appears on my poot screen when I switch
on cos it's easier than trying to read it over the phone.

Apart from OS not found, obviously. Someone contacting me from Wales

SP emerged from their own little world to say
Google finds a lot of "tech help forum" posts from 2001-2003

So, here's something less vague from Wales: bin it & buy yourself something
    less old for Xmas.

It worked fine until yesterday, and the peeps with the lappie don't
    have a clue.

I problaly should have said earlier, until it went tits-up it worked
    fine, for a lappie.

    Oh well.

Not vague at all. As someone else said, for whatever reason it's decided
not to boot form teh hard drive, and is attempting to boot form a network
device, which it can't cos it's disconnected.

It's finally bombing with a message that effectively means 'You now have a
    large and expensive paperweight'

Someone needs to get into the BIOS and check that the settings haven't
(been) altered, faling that OS re-install, possibly on a new HD

Hmm, cheers. I've no idea how old the lappy is, fingers crossed it's
    still under warranty.
