In the time honoured tradition, I asked ukrm for advice on what car to get,
ignored it all and, instead settled on getting one that was a pretty colour.

So, in order to get all the slaggings-off out of the way before it filters
out, as of next Saturday I will be the proud owner of a 1.9JTD Multi-jet
    Alfa 156.

I know it's an Alfa, but they get a good write-up and, 'cos it was a dealer
special pre-reg job, it has 24 miles on the clock (most of them done by me)
and was a good £5k off list.

And it kicked the petrol version's arse 'cos I tried that too.

Ho-hum, lets see what happens when it rains, then..... Not worried about
rust as it has an 8 year anti-corrosion warranty, but I bet *something*
electric'll curl up and die the first time I drive in rain/fog/hail/slight
    dampness in the air...

  3. On a different note, I saw in What Car that the Silver Tuddy, listed at
just over 17k in SE spec, as I have it (2.2 CR diesel), should be bought
for 15k - that was their recommended target.

So I felt quite chuffed at getting it for 14k.

Sunday Times' Deal of the Week, today, in their Driving section - 12200
    quid. 'Kin 'ell.

Oh well, I knew it would depreciate like a breeze block lobbed into a
ravine - it's not too much of a concern given that intend to keep it a
    long while.

Not half as chuffed as I was today, picking up a near-immaculate
18k mile zx7r for 2200 quid. Felt almost guilty about taking it off
    his hands!

Add that to the immaculate 72k mile 306XSi I picked up a month or so
ago for 200 quid less, and I'm feeling rather pleased with myself.

There ain't much that keeps any value these days. Best to plan to either
make as much use of the vehicle as you can (i.e. keep it until death),
or just accept a loss when you change.

    Not just the one:

VFR800 - hasn't depreciated by more than a few hundred quid in 2 years
    from what I can see.
    MZ ETZ300 - holding.
    Alfa 75TS - holding / appreciating.
Alfa 155TS - it's going to be worth what I paid for a fair amount of
    time yet.
Golf Cabrio - currently worth feck-all, but when MOTd worth at least 50%
more than what I paid for it.

  13. All right:

Honda 400 Four - appreciating nicely, though it's still worth more in
parts, I reckon. See item 7930623373 on Ebay! I've got a spare one of
    these...
Trophy - depreciating. Down to 4k, I guess
Ducati - depreciating. Maybe 2k, but unlikly to fall much lower
CD200 - worth twice what I paid for it at ukp500-odd
Dax - worth maybe 500 quid and not likely to fall further.
    DT50MX - see CD200.

£8k new? Just under half that now.
No bloody idea. Probably around 1/5th of it's original cost.
    £14k new, about a grand's worth now.
£16k new, £700 or so now.
No idea on the new price as it's 23 years old.
Good point. But I don't do new.

    The Older Gentleman says...
ZX-9R - Worth a fair bit more than I paid 3 weeks ago.
GPZ500S - Still worth 10 times what it cost me 18 months ago.
CB250RS - Still worth more than 5 times what it cost me 3 years ago.

If I was feeling really mercenary I could break all 3 for spares and
    make a huge profit.

tbh, I don't worry too much about shit going wrong... I *know* it will. And
when it does, in the next 30 months or so, I may spend a few hours by the
roadside, but then I'll get a 3.2 GT to play with while they fix my car...
So I still don't lose. Ish.

GL1500 - worth about half what I paid for it seven years ago.[1]
CBR1100 - worth about half what I paid for it five years ago.
KH500A8 - worth more every day it survives.
TS250C - not worth the wheelie bin it belongs in.

[1] Assuming it's ever in one piece again.
