Spring has sprung, and with it the rattling of spanners in gloomy garages reaches a frenzy. Yes, the sun us out, April is nearly here, which means the 2005 Team UKRM Race Season must be about to start! This will be our fourth season, and even that seems like an achievement. Unlike the last couple of years, the bike is fairly unchanged for this season (which is probably a good thing) - just a few minor enhancements, like a 16.5" front Dymag for a superbike spec front wet (to match the rear) and a quickshifter (still to be installed). The engine is back from Slick Bass, and is making 133bhp on his dyno (this same dyno measured the bike at 125bhp last August). So, to business. As always, support from ukrmers at the races will be very welcome. The meetings this year are : 3rd April Snetterton 21st May Brands Hatch (GP Circuit) 25/25 June Snetterton (24 hour!) 31 July Pembrey 1 October Donington Park The first race is less than 2 weeks away! We'll be there on the Saturday afternoon practising before Sunday's race - there's ample camping at the circuit, so make a weekend of it if you like. Also, we (well, some of us) will be at Mallory Park this Wednesday afternoon (23rd), so if anyone is at a loose end then feel free to pop along. Anyone who can work a camera would be useful, actually. And, finally - the 24 hour race. This is going to be a huge deal, and require a huge effort. We will need at least twice as many people as we use for a 6 hour race, probably more. Positions are available for: - mechanics - fuel men [1] - lap timers/pit board wavers - caters We plan to have some sort of awning arrangement up behind the pits where supporters can hang out, and where off duty crew can relax, get a butty, etc. It occurs to me that if someone was prepared to take it on, we could run some sort of tea/cake/bacon butty stall, with proceeds going to the team [2]. But that needs some volunteers. In fact, it's all going to need lots of volunteers. Also, KRC themselves are looking for people to help, so if you can't help us, but fancy doing something, contact them. [1] you need to be a hefty woman to use our fuel rig [2] this one race is going to cost us a mnimum of 3k
Might be up for that - would be a good way to finish off running in the bike. Now to try and remember the route I took coming back the last time (without the 'lets try and crash' bits obviously).
its a six hour race so presumably 6pm. -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ Triumph 955iSS / GSF1200 bandit / CG125 MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
Champ says... I've always fancied this this 24hr endurance racing lark. Snetterton sounds like fun so feel free to put me down for this one. Well I can wield a spanner but I'm probably a bit slow for race team stuff. As long as you don't want anything more complicated than a cup of tea and a bacon butty. TBH I'd be quite happy doing whatever needed doing.
Starts at midday, does it? Ok, looks like I could make that, then. Might leave a bit before the end, though.
OK, cheers. Speed is less important than being methodical. We'll arrange the crews so that there's some one experienced and in charge for each 'watch'. That's what I had in mind. That's the spirit!
He did, but then he came back in. It's like the bloody okey cokey with some folks. Slight weirdness dept: the chap I had lined up to replace Daz, Miles Tripp, was killed racing at Pembrey on Sunday. I only met him a few times, but he was a nice guy, and just *loved* racing bikes. http://www.ngroadracing.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=534
It is the news@champ. etc one. No mail here yet, and I'm just off to a meeting, so I'll attend to it on my return.
Champ barfed: I am intending to attend as many as I can this year (appointments, legs and possible work providing) Caterers I could do, the rest depends on mobility. I'll have a word with Dawn. But wouldn't this need licenses and health and safety certificates and stuff? frag
Answer - yes. -- Alex BMW R1150GS DIAABTCOD#3 MSWF#4 UKRMFBC#6 Ibw#35 BOB#8 http://www.team-ukrm.co.uk Windy's "little soldier"
