ER5 (again) not starting

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by David Alderton, Apr 3, 2006.

  1. Folling up from the adventures of last month, I bought a new batter
    and all was well again.

    Until this morning.

Pressed the starter, and the engine fired up, ran for about 10
    seconds, then died.

Tried again, several times, all sorts of different amounts of choke,
    nothing.

The starter turns over, occasionally now, but the solenoid is making
    an angry clicking sound.

It also needs a new chain as it's at the end of the adjustment span.
It's probably a good idea to change the sprockets at the same time,
    isn't it?

So tonight, I'm going to have a look at the spark plugs as that's the
only thing I can think of at the moment. Any suggestions would be
    gratefully recieved.

    I hate it.

You've flooded the engine and flattened the battery.

    Turn the petrol back on.
    You've flattened the battery.
Sounds more fuel related to be. Have you checked for kinked hoses?

You're not supposed to deep-fry motorcycles.

  5. I think that this will be have to be done. It's a 3 spanner job in the
    HBOL...

    You have flooded the engine.
    You have a flat battery
    Well, I replaced 'em both.
Pay Someone Who Knows to give it a full service.
I keep my ER-5 in working order by subjecting it to abject fear of
being thrown down the road. Starts every time.

My mobile phone refused to accept an alarm setting last night. This
morning I had a quiet word with it, which involved the term "wheelie
    bin", amongst others.

    Works fine now.

    Scary ginger bloke innit.

My mobile would laugh in my face if I tried it.

    I think... :)
