Well, less said about the night before the better, so on with the bike
    reviews.

    CBR600F[1] vs CBR600 sport[2]
The F is, well, a bike. It goes well (but not too much), it stops well
(very well actually), it turns well (but not too well). It's pretty
much what you'd expect it to be. Nice bike.
The sport is *lovely* though. It feels like a small playful puppy in
comparison. It wants to turn and rides well. They both sounded good.

    Kwack turbo
Cor, that were fun. It goes and goes and goes and then doesn't stop.
    What a hoot.

    Blaney Bandit
Heavy clutch[3], wide bars, hard suspension. It wasn't my cup of tea,
but was an interesting little number.

    CR250
After having a go on the track-day cr500 thingy I wondered how the 250
would compare[4]. It's a pussycat, but an involving one, especially
when the weave sets in. Oh, this didn't stop in a hurry either.

    Pan Euro
Wafting at it's best. I've never had a ride that can be described as
relaxing before. Nice engine note and smoooth. I'd never considered
one before, but I can see the appeal now.

    Daytona
    Want.

    [1] Or whatever Blaney's is
    [2] Or whatever Elly's is.
    [3] Muggins stalled it twice.
[4] Muggins gave up trying to start it.

Hang on a minute. He just turned up here on the CBR... did he take them both
    up?

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
and revolving at 900 miles an hour,
It's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned,
the sun that is the source of all our power.
The Sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at 40,000 miles an hour,
of the Galaxy we call the Milky Way.
Our Galaxy itself contains 100 billion stars,
    it's 100,000 light-years side-to-side,
It bulges in the middle, 16 000 light-years thick,
but out by us it's just 3 000 light-years wide.
    We're 30,000 light-years from galactic central point,
we go round every 200 million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
in this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
in all of the directions it can whizz,
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light you know,
twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
how amazingly unlikely is your birth,
Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
because there's bugger all down here on Earth.

  5. Probably, but you should have seen how long it took blaney to explain it
to us. Next time we're going to get him to explain gravity, whilst doing
his impression of a Glasweigan pisshead. [1]

[1] you had to be there.

He also recounted this rather comically earlier. I think his memory is
    slowly returning.

  7. well it seems he's about half way through the evening now.
I'd love to see his face when he remembers the simultaneous Jizz
conversations he started, conducted and finished.

The only bike I really wanted to have a go on and absolutely loved it.
I really must get one of these for the commute, perhaps a lighter
    clutch would be nice though.

  11. Having had a go on the Mint One, it doesn't stop because the
engine doesn't react to the throttle being closed for
a couple of seconds. They don't all do that...
    Heratic.

  12. heh.

    Blaney's CBR600.
Stops well. Turns well. Shifts well. But buzzy. The tank
cover makes it comfortable to grip with ones knees though.

    Platy's Drifter.
After seeing the ClogMeister ride this, I got it into
my head that it was a funny gear change. And so I spent
a couple of minutes confused, but the bike doesn't really
give a damn what gear it's in. Very comfy, and turns far far
    better than I expected.

    Lozzo's ZZR1100.
Another competant bike. Quiet and long, but turns well and brakes
    well.

    Champ's turbo.
Lovely condition, but that throttle problem means you actually
have to use the brakes! But the rear brake does at least work
    on this one...

    Blaney's B12.
Bloody lovely. Seat is not as comfy as it could be, and the lack
of fairing means that m-way cruising is limited to 90ish for
neck comfort. (But that's Claire's comfortable speed as well,
so that's fine). As Pip says, these should be available on the NHS:
Don't understand counter-steering: get this bike.
    Can't wheelie: get this bike.
I'd change the clutch and the seat, but that's all.

I know I talked about going the CX, but held off.
And I should have had a go on the SV, but didn't. Ah well.

No, it was just that it's an older bike. I'm grateful that I got to see

Yes you should - I warmed it up after a go on Blaney's CBR. I couldn't
bring myself to thrash the CBR from cold, and suspected others might not
    share my mechanical sympathy.

  16. *I* should have had a go on the SV. Bloody nice lookin' bike that
mate. Just didn't want to risk dropping it. [1] Definitely a bike to
look at when i start getting bored of mine.

[1] Given that I started the day dropping [2] my own bike, which is a
good couple of inches lower in the seat than the SV.
[2] well, more sort of 'gently lowering it to the gound' actually.

    Here goes.

    CIHAGM-fest. The Zymurgy report

Mmm. Felt pretty tired on the morning and had no wish to ride
    anything, let alone quickly.

But after seeing the various stunting and balls out screaming past
(mentioning no names PIP!) I quickly prised Ace's keys out of his hand
    and nicked his lid
    and gloves.

    GSXR1000-K3 Ace's stunt bike.
Fecking awesome machine. A /lot/ more lively engine than the
Blackbird. Spins freely, from any revs, in any gear with no fuss &
disappears into the distance. Nice riding position, feels very well
screwed together and taut (i.e. unlike the 9R and ThunderAce). Nice
and light, corners well, not at all frisky. Didn't like digital
speedo, but I don't like them anyway.
Grin factor 9 - I could live with this bike.

    CBR600F - Elly's pride and joy
Was politely told to not break it under pain of death. As if I would
    :)
After the Gixxer, felt plainly gutless :-( but the engine revved well
and it made a nice noise. Didn't feel any lighter or more flickable
    (heh, just wrote
'lickable') than the gixxer but didn't find any serious corners. Nice,
but not really 'me' - (Felt the same with the 6R too)

Trumpet 595 Daytona - Guess who's - also told to bring it back in one
    piece, as above ...
A nice gentle ride ;-) Engine willing and seemed to develop more power
than the inline 6's, prolly due to the torque. Front brake did indeed
have an 'interesting ' response. Nice at overtakes in high gear with a
pleasing rumble from the zorst/s. Could live with, but i'd need more
    power.

    VTR1000 Firestorm The clogged wonder's.
Really wanted to like this bike as I thought it would be an easy
progression from the CBR11. Unfortunately the fuel warning light was
    making its presence
felt, stopping me from giving it maximum berries. Vibey. torquey. A
very small twist of the throttle between 0-60 and 60-90 [1]. Didn't
    fancy testing it over
100 [1] due to me wearing my fleece and trainers as protection :)
Very effortless acceleration. Retardation interesting with a warped
front disk :-0 Bit of a barge in corners compared to what i'd just
been riding. Maybe i'd prefer an SP1 ?

    ZZR1100 The anti-big-tony's
Pulls well, two up :) A nice gentle bimbling machine for the back
lanes. Easy to tour on, nice and comfy, bit vibey, and with an
    'interesting' 12 speed
gearbox (with an extra 6 neutrals :) No snicking between gears on
the upshift on this one. Nice overtaking machine with plenty of urge
    on the roll on in
3rd/4th. Not as tanker like as i'd expected and goes round corners
surprisingly well (thankfully :) Have wanted to compare one against
    the BBird for a
while, but predictably i'd stay with the CBR.

Thanks all for the rides. Much appreciated to all the above.

Next time, an R1150GS beckons ;-)

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Zymurgy fascinated us all by saying...
Strange that. I've only hit one false neutral on this bike, and only a
couple of times each on the other 2 I've owned. Maybe you're a bit pansy-
    footed for a proper bike?

Ho yuss, especially when the turbo kicks in. Thanks for bringing it
along Champ - I really enjoyed the quick blat.
Kick once. Nothing. Kick twice. Nothing. "Kill switch" was suggested.
When that had been set to "run" it started. Then stalled. Bollox. One
final kick and off I went.
At an indicated 140[1]. If I worked in the middle of Bristol,
something like a CR250 or XR400 in supermoto trim would be an
    excellent commuter bike.
Totally addictive exhaust note when winding up from around 3000 rpm.
As Adie said when I handed the key back, the pillion accommodation
will not meet with approval, so I may have to have an extended test of
a Sprint ST to continue the fix of triple on an open pipe.

R1150GS Adventure - amazed by how well it handles and stops. Had to
push it backwards in the car park as it was too tall for me to paddle
around. Something else to add to the list of bikes to try for a couple
of hours. Thanks to Big Tony for letting me out on it on the Saturday
    afternoon.
